Climate change may be one of the greatest threats facing our planet today. It creates extreme weather disasters more frequent and intense such as the fury of super typhoon Haiyan.
The bleak vision of our world’s climatic future, as visualized by a Taiwanese artist (picture 1), poignantly expresses the deep concerns held in Taiwan about global warming. Hence, the island of Taiwan, which gets badly hit by strong typhoons, has set concrete emission reduction targets and utilizes cutting-edge green technologies to reduce its carbon footprint. As illustrated above (picture 2), the green leaves sprouting amidst greenhouse gas emissions symbolize Taiwan’s “can do” spirit of innovation to make our future progressive and green.
This makes Taiwan a valuable resource for international efforts to tackle global warming such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Taiwan is ready, willing and able to do its part when it can meaningfully participate in UNFCC activities.
Support Taiwan’s participation in the UNFCCC.
