Orthopedics has come a long ways since Dr. Delahay's quackpot assistant twisted my leg in the Emergency Room at Georgetown Medical Center (6/3/95) to break a hairline fracture in my knee in order to prove to me that it was broken. The next day Dr. Delahay stopped in the Operating Room before he went off to play golf, leaving me with his quackpot assistant and four impish aides that iimplanted a metal plate, six screws, and a computer chip in my knee that they had broken. (c.) But that's another story. This is about a Hobbled Relative (HR) of mine on the verge of getting a second knee replacement operation because he was now enduring the same symptoms that led to replacement of his first knee in his remaining good knee. I told HR that I, Bobby Meade (BM) was going to get to the bottom of this, for there seemed to be some kind of a scheme that has resulted in an unusually large number of knee replacement operations everywhere. I suspected that these knee replacements have been brought about by some universally-promoted health care product, particularly Vitamin D and calcium supplements. The following excerpts from communications between me and HR reveal how I came to my conclusions.
1/4/13 - I looked up info on what's probably happening with your knee. I doubt that it is "bone on bone", but rather lack of mucilage in the joint. It is similar to gout. Try Poland Spring in the clear containers and lots of chewable C and see if it clears up. Taste that water and compare it to what you have been drinking. Your knee problem is probably related to an imbalance of electrolytes arising from the surplus of elements in the water. My Encyclopedia for Healthful Living (Rodale 1974) reveals that for some reason scurvey predominates in the knee joint. As for Rehab, it would probably be hard to find a good one in this area. Search for the best there is and see if they have an outpatient class for knee replacement patients. That way you would pay for an online class that would get the critical info to you without fail. Let me know if you find a good such Rehab Center. They are one of the best branches of medicine.
1/6 - Livestrong.com has a lot of rehab info, but it is not very detailed.
1/7 - HR - I told you I take 2,000 Vit. C, they disolve very quickly, especially if you don't swallow them right away.
1/8 - Are you trying to give yourself an ulcer? It has to be chewable vitamins. Vitamin C goes thru the body in @ six hours. It has to be taken like 500 at a time like six hours apart. You probably should eliminate anything that might affect the electrolyte balance in your body. Take like only one multi-vitamin and do the Poland Spring. You have to keep doing this long after it clears up. Are you doing any of the stuff that they claim lubricates the joint? (like glucosamine or other amino acids?) I don't think that stuff is physiologically practical. (That is, it has to be produced by the body.)
1/9 - Well, what I'm saying is you need to purge your metabolism. Make that knee work again, then don't do anything that makes it happen again. If you end up with two knee replacements, you are going to find out how much more unstable it would be. You didn't need the first one either. It was all orthopedic hype.
1/10 - HR - You never saw the x-rays or felt the pain.
1/10 - What does the x-ray show you of the articulated surface of the joint? Did you go to a good general MD before you went to orthopedic surgeons? Do you have any idea of how crooked they can be in promoting their own income and their "bionic solutions" to everydays aches and pains? It's all about money.
1/11 - HR - Multiple x-rays over the years showed bone on bone. From the torn cartridge in 1973 to through torn ACL in 1986
REPLACED ACL. In 1992 and bone on bone for 10 years.
1/11 - I don't believe bone on bone has happened. It's too excruciating. You wouldn't be able to move at all. Remember taking 15-20 multi-vitamins at a time when you were in high school? Can't do stuff like that.If you can move the knee at all now. You can probably bring it back by promoting lubrication and growth of cartilage by removing whatever is blocking it. Replaced the ACL? I didn't think that was possible. How could they replace it? What do they attach it to?

1/14 - You don't understand how unstable your artificial knee is. You do not have the feeling or the control of direction or balance you do in the good knee. This will be good for you." When the artificial knee fails, I bet it is a horrid thing that is much worse than a severe break, and amputation is the only solution. I haven't really studied the effects of replacement on the bone health, and I don't think that is on the computer. I bet that they encourage a lifestyle that leads to the replacement of the second kneel via a diet that blocks production of the fluid and/or growth of the cartilage. The main issue is you can't ingest the components of synovial fluids and/or the cartilage and expect them to reach the joint. They have to be produced by the body, and there is a lot of schemes that try to convince you otherwise. That is why that stuff is on sale everywhere. Have you tried injections into the joint of lubricant? I see a lot of sites for that on the computer so it is probably not good in the long run. So I suspect that the imbalances that will probably arise from having a second replacement will put undue stress on the bones which will splinter when it fails. Would you replace the second one with the same type of joint? Think it might be like driving a car with different size tires if it was a different type? It's probably all a scam to put lots and lots of money in someone's pocket.
PS You should go to DC and see what they have at the Library of Congress. They would have info on scams and such. They would also have info on lubrication of the knee too. It is all there for Congress to set the policies. Just don't ask questions or act stupid. They will throw you out of there. Just find the book in the Medical Section. 1/24 - I think that I found it. Hypervitaminosis D. Have you been taking a lot of Vit. D and/or calcium? Too much Vit. D promotes calcium absorbtion, leading to hypercalcemia, which results in the calcification of soft tissue. That may be the "bone on bone" feeling you get. 1/25 - Let me add here that recovery from Vitaminosis D is a gradual process; thus it would probably take weeks or months to remove excess D from the body via water and Vit. C. Vitamin D, E, and A creams on the skin over the cut bones of the replaced knee is probably still a good idea because absorbtion via creams is small.
Conclusion: So that's the story. I think that it is hypercalcemia brought on by hypervitaminosis D and/or excess calcium in the air or water that has led to the large number of knee replacements.
