One Step Away from Protecting Muslim Calif. Workers' Rights

by CAIR request Friday, Aug. 24, 2012 at 3:06 AM

Throughout the year, CAIR-California has actively worked to mobilize community support in passing of Assembly Bill 1964 (the Workplace Religious Freedom Act). Your response to our call has been overwhelming.

Now, we're almost there.

The California Senate this week will vote on Assembly Bill 1964, a bill that seeks to protect Muslim employees' religious rights across the state. This is the last stop for the bill before it heads to Governor Brown's desk for signature.

Therefore, it is critical that you remind your State Senators now about the importance of this legislation to all Californians.

The entire process should take no more than two minutes. We've included sample talking points below. You can find your Senator here.

Sample Talking Points:

"Hello, my name is _____. I am a resident of _____ and a constituent of Senator _____'s district. I am calling to request that Senator _____ support AB 1964, the Workplace Religious Freedom Act. I have lived in California for __ years, and I believe that workers should be judged based on their job skills instead of their religion. [Discuss any personal reflections or experiences of discrimination.] Thank you for your vote and your service."

Earlier this year, participants at the Muslim Day at the Capitol met with legislators in Sacramento and advocated for AB 1964.

Now it's your turn.

We're one crucial step away from further enhancing a culture of inclusion and diversity in the workplace throughout California. AB 1964 has passed the California State Assembly with bipartisan support and is now headed for the Senate floor.

Can we count on your voice to turn AB 1964 into law and improve working conditions for all religious minorities in the state?

Contact your Senator NOW. Then send this action alert to your family and friends and ask them to do the same.
