The Green Liberty Party (GLP) solution to seasonal flooding and drought concerns is to construct a pipeline that can regularly transport large amounts of water from flood prone regions to drought prone regions. This differs from current SNWA plans to drain northern Nevada's aquifers with a pipeline.

Several problems can often be solved with a single solution, as in the case of regular flood and drought prone regions requiring federal support for these frequent ecological catastrophes. Imagine the next century or beyond being free from the problems of droughts and flooding in many regions known to be plagued by the above two water related natural disasters. The Green Liberty Party (GLP) solution for long term ecological sustainability is to construct a pipeline that can regularly transport large amounts of water from flood prone regions to drought prone regions.

Another unrelated problem for the U.S. is lack of adequate passenger rail transit corridors, especially in an east/west direction. The construction of a metallic pipeline to transport water from flood prone regions to drought prone regions could help solve this unrelated problem. The use of magnetic levitation trains are limited to China, Japan and a few localized tourist trains such as Epcot Center in Disneyworld. Magnetic levitation or mag-lev trains have frictionless motion due to the cushion of air that the train glides over. The mag-lev train uses opposing magnets (N/N or S/S) on the train bottom and pipeline roof to repel one another and lift the train up off the ground. Then a separate pushing or pulling force is needed to propel the mag-lev train along the magnetically opposing track. Normal mag-lev trains would need an independent energy source for this forward or backward motion along the track as the opposing magnets only repel and do not push or propel the train forward. However, the pipeline is moving floodwater along and underneath the proposed mag-lev train pathway with the use of solar and wind powered pumps.

There is a theoretical potential for the pumped floodwater to transport several large magnetic balls that would roll through the pipeline like marbles through a tube. These magnetic balls would fit the dimensions of the pipeline yet be hollowed out inside to enable maximum water passage through the pipeline. A rounded mesh of magnetic bars in an interwoven web like a hollow ball of yarn would provide a visual image of the “magnet balls”. These magnetic balls would be attracting (N/S or S/N) to metal magnetic bars descending down the side of the train parallel to through not contacting the pipeline. Inside the pipeline the magnet balls are aligned with the magnet bars along the train.

While the setback levee and containment basin is filling with floodwater, the train is loading up with voluntary evacuees leaving the stormy weather that is leading to the flooding. The mag-lev train is on the ground and all magnets are off except the attraction magnet balls and bars to prevent any motion. The pipeline is empty and the magnet balls are resting on the pipeline floor. When the containment basin becomes ¾ full with floodwater emerging past the setback levee along the flood stage river an announcement is made to begin final boarding plans. Family members choosing to stay and ride out the storm will need to say their final goodbyes to those choosing to voluntarily evacuate on the mag-lev train until their return. It will not be a “final” goodbye as there are not expected to be any casualties as there will be no flooding.

That does not mean accidental casualties could occur from NON-FLOODING DANGERS such as wind-blown debris or hypothermia from exposure. Hurricanes and severe storms are generally not considered healthy events for humans to partake in and if offered a free ride on a mag-lev train to a desert city of their choice most residents would be better off to voluntarily evacuate. The tragedy of Hurricane Katrina’s flooding and the potential for drought in Las Vegas make these two cities the beginning and end point for the floodwater removal pipeline and mag-lev evacuation train.

Once the containment basin is full the train will need to issue the final “ALL ABOARD!” call and lock all doors once the passengers are loaded. The time delay for final loading is as early as three quarters full because once filled the train MUST leave as there remains no other place for the water to go besides over the walls of the containment basin. When the passengers are loaded and the doors are locked the next step is to power up the opposition train floor and pipeline roof magnets to create the mag-lev cushion. The passengers will be seated and wearing seat belts for the initial take off to prevent injury from any sudden motion. When the opposing force magnets power up, then the mag-lev train will lift up vertically above the ground by two feet. The mag-lev train is at ground level and the pipeline is underground, with a gap of two feet on both sides of the pipeline to house the magnetic bars descending from the train’s side and paralleling the magnetic balls. After the opposing train floor and pipeline roof magnets are turned on, the train will no longer have any physical contact with the pipeline.

Now the floodgates can open and allow the force of the escaping floodwater to push into the pipeline from the filled containment basin. As the floodwater enters the pipeline the hollow magnet balls will be forced to move away from the containment basin by the rushing momentum of the escaping floodwater. This is the same force that once broke through or overtopped levees and is now being used to provide the initial start-up acceleration for the mag-lev evacuation trains. The initial force of the escaping floodwater will lift and roll the magnet balls that attract to the bars descending along the sides and below the train by several feet to the bottom of the pipeline where the balls are floating along the pipeline floor along with the rushing waters. To harness the maximum potential energy the take-off of the mag-lev train will be sudden and fast, requiring the need for passengers to be belted in for their safety. Following the initial momentum of the floodwater escaping the containment unit the solar and wind pumps will kick in to maintain the speed. After the first take-off the mag-lev train will hold a steady speed controlled by the pumps and passengers can remove their seat belts and move freely about the train as they wish. Similar to Amtrak passenger rail the mag-lev train would have a dining car, snack bar and lounge for voluntary evacuees to enjoy while heading towards drier climates.

Once the containment basin is emptied the floodgates will close and allow the containment basin to refill while another mag-lev train loads up with voluntary evacuees. The pipeline will be vacuum sealed in various locations along the route behind the escaping floodwater to enable better momentum and to ensure that the water does not remain in the pipeline.
Along the way to drought prone Las Vegas from frequently flooded New Orleans the pipeline and mag-lev train will make several stops in other locations. The first few stops in Louisiana will be for picking up more passengers and possibly more water to enter the pipeline from a local containment basin. The cities of Baton Rouge, Lafayette and Shreveport would all have setback levees along their rivers and containment basins filling with floodwater. When the mag-lev train arrives from New Orleans another momentum push will come from the floodwater escaping their containment basin following the all aboard call. The timing of the arrival and loading with the containment basin being three quarters full may be a challenge, so setback levees may need to be wider in these locations as the extra water will need to have additional space to avoid localized flooding. The setback levees are an important component to avoid flooding. The setback levees give the river more width to spread out and thus decrease pressure on the levees that cause overtopping, seepage and flooding. In addition to setback levees the containment basin provides relief to the flood stage river as it fills and empties into the pipeline and then moves the magnet balls that pull the mag-lev train along.

After leaving Shreveport and entering Houston the initial flood push may not be available as weather conditions could be normal. If no water is available passengers can board or exit as they choose, though the momentum will need to be provided by the pumps without any floodwater push. After leaving Houston the next stops will be San Antonio, El Paso and some towns between. The central and west Texas stops can load floodwater from containment basins if needed though would also be able to receive floodwater for replenishing their aquifers if they have drought conditions. Further west into rural New Mexico, then Phoenix, down to Yuma and up along the Colorado River basin to Las Vegas are all stops for receiving floodwater for the purposes of floodwater replenishment. Distribution of floodwater between drought prone cities should be based upon need and wherever the drought is most severe, not based on bidding or demands for development projects. Every city and rural stop west of San Antonio should receive some water as regular rations to make each stop productive for unloading passengers and refilling aquifers and underground storage cisterns with floodwater.

Upon arrival in Las Vegas the mag-lev train ends and prepares for the return trip in a few days. After the hurricane or storm that formed the flooding is over and the two day trip to Las Vegas the voluntary evacuees have a few days to rest in Las Vegas for the return trip or provide their own means home if they so desire. Those wishing for a free ride home on the mag-lev train would need to wait in Las Vegas and stay at a free shelter specifically for displaced voluntary evacuees or in a motel at their own expense. After a few days the mag-lev train would be ready for the return trip.

Since the floodwater brought to Las Vegas was destined for their aquifers and underground storage tank the magnet balls will need to be pushed by another liquid medium other than water. The primary purpose of the pipeline is to move water away from flooded regions and deliver it to drought regions, the transport of passengers by using magnetics and momentum of rolling balls is a secondary benefit. There is a medium that can be produced in drought prone regions in large quantities that would replace the water and roll the magnet balls and push the mag-lev train back to New Orleans to await the next flooding event.

The medium for the return trip will be jojoba oil, made from the drought tolerant plant native to the Southwestern desert and evolved to the desert climate. Jojoba plants can be grown with minimum water inputs as they are adapted to the lack of rainfall far better than any other crops currently grown there. Jojoba oil is not edible though is useful as a lubricant for machinery. Since fossil fuel derived oils are not only toxic to the ecosystem but also becoming more expensive and unstable as global supply of petroleum decreases jojoba oil would make a perfect substitute. In this instance the local farmers would be justifiably subsidized by the government to grow jojoba plants so that the mag-lev trains have a return medium besides water. Once established the jojoba plants require few inputs of pesticides or irrigation water and can provide a net gain for the drought region’s farming community.

The return trip will also be slower as the jojoba oil cannot be pumped to move as quickly as water. However, the jojoba oil will also coat the inside of the pipeline and prevent any rust damage from occurring in case the magnet balls occasionally bounce slightly when going around curves and damage the interior walls by scarring the metal. The jojoba oil can enter the pipeline from storage tankers that were filled by local farmers prior to the arrival from New Orleans. The jojoba oil storage tankers for entering the pipeline will be located along all stops in Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and West Texas until San Antonio. East of San Antonio the storage tankers will be empty and await rations of jojoba oil for distribution to local industries that require lubricants for their machinery. The jojoba farmers will be paid upon delivery based upon their contributions to the storage tanks of the drought prone regions and the industrial clients who purchase the jojoba oil will pay on site of pick up.

Once the mag-lev train completes the return trip the pipeline will be coated in jojoba oil to prevent rusting, the train cars stored in New Orleans to await the next time the river or ocean approaches flood stage. The long term benefits of the mag-lev train and water pipeline will offset the initial cost. The yearly dues of flood and drought damage for taxpayers will be eliminated once the mag-lev train and pipeline system is completed to connect spur cities and rural drought regions with the main lines. In addition to the New Orleans to Las Vegas line there should be another mag-lev pipeline that begins in Cincinnati, Ohio and travels west along the Ohio River to the Mississippi and then along the Missouri River from St. Louis to Kansas City, Missouri, then from Wichita, Kansas to Dodge City along the Arkansas River. From the eastern slope of the Rockies in the city of Pueblo, Colorado the line curves south and ends in Roswell, New Mexico. Further north another line would begin in Chicago heading west to Quad Cities, Cedar Rapids, Des Moines and Sioux City in Iowa before crossing the Missouri and entering Omaha, Nebraska heading west along the Platte River with stops in Grand Island and ending in Denver, Colorado. With some additional spurs these three lines would cover the majority of the flood prone and drought prone regions of the U.S.

Another reason to invest in the mag-lev train and pipeline combination is the expected rise in sea level resulting from climate change. As the oceans warm and polar ice melts the average sea level will rise significantly over the next few decades. This will result in low lying cities near the water being flooded more frequently as the storm surge in above average seal level will push water further inland. The desert regions are capable of absorbing rising ocean levels indefinitely provided a mechanism exists to transport the additional water on a regular basis. The technology of a pipeline combined with setback levees and an additional mag-lev train to bring voluntary evacuees to the desert away from the severe weather will benefit the U.S. for centuries.
The potential for a network of mag-lev trains and pipelines will be enhanced by the availability of large iron deposits located on neighboring planet Mars. The current economic conditions create the perfect chance to collect this resource located on a currently uninhabited planet. Another unrelated issue concerning humans is overpopulation, so is establishing a permanent international base on Mars for the purpose of iron mining, scientific research and terraforming. The final stage of terraforming Mars is to create a climate on Mars that resembles conditions around both Polar Regions of Earth. Currently Mars is even far too cold for the polar bears, though the domes could be heated to eventually resemble conditions found at the poles prior to climate change’s increased temps at the poles. This would be accomplished by bringing compostable biomass and stored carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) and other greenhouse gasses isolated from the atmosphere of Earth to both reduce global warming on Earth and enable some warming to occur in cities on Mars under transparent domes. These dome cities would create their own atmosphere under the dome and enable basic iron mining operations to begin. The dome base mine will supply the return trip with iron ore in unlimited amounts as Martian soil is extremely rich in iron.

Terraforming and Martian dome cities are a way out of human overpopulation on Earth. The resettled humans on Mars are providing a much needed element of iron for the mag-lev trains and pipelines on their home planet Earth and will be considered heroes and space pioneers. Similar to the pipeline leaving with water and returning with oil, the Martian trips will leave Earth with compacted compostable biomass and greenhouse gasses stored in canisters and return to Earth with iron ore from Mars. Each trip is therefore productive in accomplishing the goals of warming the dome cities on Mars and bringing iron for the mag-lev train and floodwater pipeline network.

When the ship arrives on Mars the dome city is erected next to the ship and the compostable biomass is removed from the ship and piled along the sides of the dome tent for insulation from the severe cold on the Martian surface. Despite the cold the sunlight will enter the transparent dome and some heat may be trapped along with gasses released from the decaying biomass.

The dome material should be a flexible plastic with additional repair materials in case of being struck by a large meteor. As there is no atmosphere on Mars the meteors do not combust into flames as they do when entering Earth and can be bounced off the dome’s surface if the material is flexible enough to bend inwards like a trampoline without breaking and repel the meteor away from the surface. This would enable the mining crew to work undisturbed by meteor impacts. In the event of a large meteor that ruptures the dome the crew will need to evacuate into the ship next to the dome until the repair is completed. Programmed robots should be used for dome setup and repairs as the actual climate on Mars without any additional shelter is far too cold for any human to tolerate even when dressed for Antarctica during deep winter.

Oxygen tanks will be needed for the humans under the dome as there is none available on Mars. Stored oxygen supplies will be the most significant factor next to water limiting the duration of time on Mars. This gas unlike the CO2 and CH4 should not be released into the dome and only breathed directly by humans from their tank supply. The mining machines will load the iron into the ship by going through an additional chamber in the dome to prevent heat from escaping. When ready to leave another ship will land on the other side of the dome prior to the filled ship’s departure. This will ensure that the dome is not abandoned and no heat can escape before a fresh supply of greenhouse gasses in canisters and compacted compostable biomass shows up to maintain the momentum of warming the air beneath the dome.

The Martian iron miners are working in specially adapted suits inside of sealed vehicles that remove iron from a centrally located pit. The Martian soils redness is an indication of rich iron content, and certain veins may contain more iron than the surrounding dirt. The key is to locate deposits of magnetic iron, so some research needs to be performed beforehand to choose a suitable location where enough pure magnetic iron can be found. The ship remains the central quarters for iron miners to eat, sleep and recreate with an internal heating system and solar powered roof on the ship to provide continuous energy production. To adapt to surrounding work conditions and to save energy on board temps need to be only slightly above freezing and thermal gear needs to be worn at all times.

The warming of the internal dome air by release of greenhouse gasses is assisted by the decomposition of the compacted biomass that has been placed around the dome’s sides. This seals in heat and prevents cold air from pushing out from the bottom of the dome’s structure. As the biomass decomposes slowly in the cold air, it releases additional methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) into the dome air. The exhaled CO2 and manure on Mars are also valuable resources for portable anaerobic methane digesters on board the ship that treat manure to remove pathogens and trap methane (CH4) for removal from the ship and to be added to the surrounding dome’s air. In such a closed setting the ship becomes a mobile Earth base that contains the factors needed to recreate a climate on Mars most similar to Earth’s Polar Regions prior to escalating climate change. Having some cold tolerant plants and a species of algae found only in Antarctica on board will contribute some limited oxygen supplies to the ship.

The Martian terraforming project is a balancing equation where the greenhouse gasses causing problems on Earth are removed and relocated to Mars where they will continue to act as greenhouse gasses inside of the transparent domes. The equation of continuous trips to Mars removing greenhouse gasses and compostable biomass from Earth to Mars is that the warming on Earth will be decreased while the warming on Mars will be increased. The amount of iron that is available on Mars is astounding, containing magnetite and other magnetic compounds that would become available for an expanding network of floodwater pipelines and mag-lev trains. The reduction of greenhouse gasses and compressed and compacted biomass being lifted off of Earth and brought to Mars makes the trips productive instead of wasteful. The combination of that benefit on Earth plus the warming of the air under the dome city on Mars and the return trip of free iron coming from Mars make claims of NASA being irrelevant and a waste of money open for legitimate debate.

This is a long term process that would encourage international cooperation and would result in an expansion of the floodwater to drought pipeline and mag-lev train system. Getting extra iron from Mars and establishing long term dome cities there would make this possible without needing to exhaust the limited supply of iron on Earth. These pipelines, magnet balls and trains will need large amounts of iron to establish an effective network across the U.S. and eventually the Earth. To alleviate drought and flooding on an international level sounds like it would discourage excessive militarism and religious fundamentalism. The people of Earth may benefit from a large scale scientific project that combines mag-lev trains with floodwater pipelines as a significant distraction to military conflict over religion. If the U.S. can begin the trend of flood removal pipelines powering mag-lev trains the international community can have a shared goal and begin an era of natural disaster improving infrastructure and true teamwork that makes religious military conflict a part of history.

By giving GLP Party Candidate Mark Miller the chance to become U.S. President the mag-lev train and floodwater pipeline can become reality as an alternative to continued flood and drought damage. The introduction of mag-lev trains makes options to petroleum transportation a reality.


GLP Candidate Mark Miller Qualifications for U.S. President;

Despite being from way outside of the “Beltway”, Mark has experience and insight into U.S. and international politics based upon independent research and anti-war activism in California beginning in 2001 and ongoing until 2009. Following the election of Pres. Barack Obama Mark switched gears and relocated to Nevada where he began to research and protest plans by the SNWA to construct a massive 300 mile pipeline from diminishing aquifers in central Nevada to support suburban sprawl north of Las Vegas. Recognizing that this aquifer formed during wetter prehistoric climates and was barely capable of supporting local ranchers let alone billions of gallons per year for Las Vegas, Mark devised the floodwater pipeline from New Orleans and included the mag-lev train as an additional component to “hitchhike” along with the water’s momentum. This is a pragmatic scientific solution to a problem that does not exploit one region over another as would the SNWA aquifer pipeline and instead takes one problem away from one place and by transporting the problem causes it to become a solution in another.

From 2000-04 Mark was educated in California’s community college where he obtained an equivalency of an A.A. in biology, then went on to Humboldt State University though was unable to complete his formal education. However, Mark remained very active in the sciences and was also involved part-time in several issues to protect the environment and restore fisheries such as Klamath dam removal, restoration of Sacramento Valley rivers through set back levees and advocating reduction of water consumption by encouraging San Joaquin Valley agribusinesses to convert to drought tolerant native crops such as protein rich tepary beans, jojoba and nopales cactus. In many ways Mark’s scientific education continued at public libraries and bookstores where he researched ecology and science related to the above and other topics.

During these years in CA and NV Mark became involved with Earth First!ers and other forest activists who were fighting Maxxam, a holding corporation out of Texas that had taken over locally owned Pacific Lumber. Their reason for the takeover was that PL had “unliquidated assets”, as they left 50% of their trees standing on a logged area, called a “cut”. Instead Maxxam began to log 100% of their cuts, introducing the destructive practice of clearcutting to the steep slopes of Humboldt County’s redwood forest. During his time there Mark understood that Maxxam’s focus on short term profit also harmed the local logging community and embraced the teaching of EF! activist Judi Bari who tried to bring the loggers on board the protests against Maxxam. In the end his fears were realized after Pacific Lumber went bankrupt despite parent company Maxxam having raked in billions. The people and loggers of Humboldt were left with decades of flood damage from clearcut slope erosion and recovery slowed by the lack of cover in clear cuts. What was learned was that the 50% of the trees that the original Pacific Lumber had left upon the cuts were not “unliquidated assests” as claimed by Maxxam, but were instead performing the task of holding soil and providing shade for forest regeneration. The indigenous saying of “take only what you need, nothing more” is a good moral to the story. Of course the local Pacific Lumber was following the logical motto though Maxxam chose not to follow indigenous wisdom. It also became difficult for locals to reclaim any damages from either the flooding, pension loss or the final bankruptcy as Maxxam was from out of state. This experience led Mark to consider other options besides the corporate logging of Maxxam such as locally owned logging co-opertives such as Weaverville Community Forest.

Prior to Mark’s involvement with EF! in Humboldt County, he was residing in the Sacramento Valley near Chico where he became involved with Food Not Bombs that provided vegan food from dumpsters to houseless people. The FNB food was cooked at high temperatures to kill pathogens and by eliminating meat from the meal the most serious pathogens were not present to begin with. During this experience with the vegan activists Mark learned that the details of the process of animal consumption were far more complicated than from ranch to store to plate. Instead he discovered to his dismay that the conditions of concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) were a middle step that caused antibiotic resistant pathogens to flourish. The CAFOs confine large amounts of animals in close conditions where they can transmit pathogens faster and also suffer from weakened immune systems due to lack of exercise, fresh air and sunlight. The downward spiral of CAFO confinement leads to ever weaker immune systems in the animals that become dependent upon antibiotics and ever stronger resistance of the pathogens to the antibiotics, requiring even more and stronger antibiotics, etc…
Though no longer vegan or vegetarian, Mark seeks free range animal protein without hormones or antibiotics as an ideal occasional protein along with hunting wild game on reserves and also plant protein like oak acorn flour, peanuts and sunflower seeds. However, some of these components are difficult to obtain under current conditions yet there are ways for this to happen in reality. By eliminating the CAFOs from the process and enabling ranchers to slaughter on specific sites and sell the meat to customers at markets or local stores the cruelty of animal consumption can be negated almost completely. The most cruel, unhealthy and depression inducing conditions for animals occur during their time in the CAFO, so eliminating this component would improve the quality of conditions for the animals immensely.

Free range game reserves would replace GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) crops like corn that are incorrectly fed to cattle housed in CAFOs. The free range game reserves would be large open areas surrounded by fencing where native grasslands would feed native ungulates like bison, elk, pronghorn and others. In addition hardy imports like Texas longhorn cattle would be included in the free range game reserves. To monitor takes only two gates will exist for entry or exit of hunters that will be checked for poaching or taking more than their fair share at exit points.

These GLP positions originated from the direct experiences Mark had with the vegan FNB community and independent research into the CAFOs and the later years of working on free range BLM land in Nevada with cattle. The observations on the free range were that energy from grasses in a cold sage desert turned into a source of nutrition for humans only from grazing ungulates such as cattle. However, overgrazing decimated the grasses and then nothing could graze there for a long time. There were also benefits from allowing pronghorn access to free range as they are one of very few mammals that evolved the ability to extract nutrients from sagebrush. By including sagebrush in their diet the pronghorn assist the growth of grasses by trimming back the sagebrush branches. The pronghorns cannot jump fences so having many small fences interferes with pronghorn migrations. By creating large free range reserves with cattle and pronghorn together would ensure a symbiotic relationship between two different styles of grazing.

Prior to studying biology, Mark resided in Florida where he was employed at a drop in center for the mentally ill, many of whom were without regular housing. Here he understood the difficulty faced by the mentally ill and others who were experiencing problems with housing and poverty. This experience caused him to develop a sense of empathy for those struggling with poverty and mental health disorders and that these two factors were often interrelated.

Before moving to Florida, Mark was employed as a psychiatric assistant in a large Midwestern state hospital where he learned about the history of long term institutionalization of the mentally ill. He questioned the need to warehouse people in state institutions for having acted strangely though they were generally harmless.

From his childhood in New Jersey to working in Florida and Missouri to attending school and working in California and Nevada the GLP Presidential Candidate Mark Miller has spent his 37 years getting an appreciation for the wide diversity of cultures and ecosystems to be found in the United States. It is difficult for Mark to play favoritism to one region over another as he has enjoyed the people and places he visited in the U.S. equally. His life of travel allowed Mark to understand the geography of the U.S. exceptionally well and takes interest in causes from urban to rural, desert to swamp and everywhere between.

There is a great love for the United States found in Mark’s heart and noticed by his attempts to protect the ecosystems from the redwoods to the sagelands to the shores. Nothing escapes Mark as he can remember details of ecosystems and the struggles they endure, while wanting local jobs and local co-operatives to ensure fairness for workers and the ecosystem. By joining ecosystem activist with workers Mark developed the fusion concept of joining oppositional groups together based upon common ground.

Though the Green Party and the Libertarians have many differences, there is also a great deal of common ground that should be fused together to strengthen the third parties as one united front against the status quo of Republicans and Democrats. By working together as a team despite their differences, the third party collective can use truth-telling and grassroots support to counteract the well-funded campaign coffers of the Republican and Democrat status quo. The GLP is taking a hard stance against the corporate lobbyists funding both Democrats and Republicans and then having a say no matter who the winner is. That would be the definition of corporatism, the merger of business and the government as described by Benito Mussolini as a synonym for fascism. When both political parties appear to be in opposition yet receive campaign funding from corporate lobbyists, the corporations are ensured a voice no matter who the winner is. When only two parties exist and both parties depend upon corporate campaign contributions there is no realistic way that true democracy can be achieved.

To avoid the trap of depending on corporate lobbyists the GLP will only use free websites and operate their campaign on a shoestring budget with no donations larger than ten dollars accepted and the condition that all donors must be anonymous LIVING human individuals, NOT NON-LIVING corporations! The GLP is growing strong because science, logic and truth-telling are our weapons and this is a deadly combo for the status quo politicians’ weapons of favoritism, cronyism, distraction and deception. The GLP along with the Green Party, the Libertarian Party, Peace and Freedom Party, Natural Law Party and other independent third parties will show that honesty and word of mouth can be just as effective as pandering for corporate lobbyist handouts and deceiving the U.S. people in the process. The GLP candidate will not tell anyone what they want to hear, instead the GLP offers the truths of science to a people trapped in the two false political ideologies or Republicans and Democrats.

End Floods in America by Creating a Pipeline Network to Shift Flood Waters to Drought Stricken Areas

Technology exists to build a network of water pipelines across the US, to channel away water from flooding rivers before it damages homes and businesses and dumps pollution in the oceans. Water can be sent to holding tanks in other areas, to replenish lakes and reservoirs that are low, and to supply water to drought stricken areas so farmers can grow crops and animals. Leadership is needed to start and coordinate this.
Every spring and summer, certain major rivers in the US, such as the Mississippi River, flood farmland and destroy homes and businesses. Every year, states in the US experience severe drought. Farmers lose income and many sell off their land and slaughter the animals they cannot feed. Residences lose landscaping and trees. Parks die. Everyone involved suffers; there is much misery and loss of money.

It’s 2011 and the technology exists to build a series of water pipelines across the US, to channel flood water to holding tanks in other areas, and to supply water to drought stricken areas. Stop letting excess water flow out to sea. Rescue the oceans from the pollution that flood waters pick up and dump into the ocean, creating dead zones.

All that is missing is the call to action and the willingness to discuss and plan the system. This petition asks the president of the US to summon the appropriate agencies and ask them to begin planning. Because it will cross state lines, this project requires coordination and impetus from the federal level.

Water is non-toxic; surely water lines could be approved as easily as oil pipelines seem to be. The pipes could be placed on existing public right of ways, such as roads and railroad easements. Such a project would take place over many years, like the great highway building program of the 1950’s. It would create a HUGE number of new jobs. These would be high end – for the engineers and system planners and operators, skilled – for the pipeline installers and manufacturers, and low end – for the laborers. It would also create jobs at the pipe and equipment manufacturing companies.

It would be green. It could also generate electricity supply for local cities and towns, as the water moving through the pipes can generate green power. It would be a true economic stimulus; these jobs could not be shipped overseas.

By 2025, when heavy snow melt engorges the rivers in one region, the excess water can be siphoned off upstream before it damages homes, businesses and farms downstream. The water can be stored in large holding tanks in desert regions, pumped to states which are traditionally water deprived like those in the southwest, or pumped to drought stricken regions. The water can be used to replenish lakes and reservoirs that are very low.

Whether you believe in climate change, or climate periodicity, El Nino or La Nina, this system solves the very real impact of too much or too little water. It’s a no brainer.

I’ve talked to a lot of people about this and everyone says it’s a great idea and very obvious. But most of them won’t take the time to write the president, so I have created this petition.
