Socialist Party USA Presidential Candidate Stewart Alexander condemned the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the provisions of the President Obama’s Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Calling it a “corporate restructuring of the healthcare system in America,” Alexander pointed to the many inequities that are built into to the new system. He highlighted the need for a fully socialized healthcare system that guarantees access to high quality healthcare as a human right.

“The private health insurance companies always had two ideas in mind when it came to healthcare reform – either to avoid all reforms or stick the American people with a bad reform,” Alexander stated, “Today, the Supreme Court upheld the bad healthcare reform that will insure the profits of private healthcare companies at the expense of American’s access to healthcare.”

“Obama’s policy was based on the original sin of allowing the pharmaceutical companies off the hook. He then followed this up by pledging public funds to subsidize junk healthcare plans, coercing Americans into purchasing these plans and silencing the voices of single-payer healthcare advocates. This is no reform; it is just another corporate giveaway by the Obama administration.”

Alexander pointed to the fact that an estimated 26 million people will remain outside the healthcare system and that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act still leaves millions of Americans vulnerable to bankruptcy because of medical bills.

Alexander and his running mate Alex Mendoza advocate for a single-payer healthcare system that will abolish the private health insurance companies. They see this measure as an important first step in the direction of a fully socialized healthcare system. The pair will challenge the Patient Protection and Affordable Care on the campaign trail, including the Swing States of Ohio, Colorado, Louisiana, New Jersey and Florida.

The Green Party has endorsed Medicare for All as an option to Obamacare that insists individuals purchase insurance form a corporation or face taxation.

By strengthening and supporting already existing Medicare and granting these basic protections to ALL U.S. citizens there will be no lack of coverage for the uninsured.

"If it's not broken, don't fix it!"

There is nothing wrong with Medicare! Why couldn't Obama just put his energy into supporting and strengthening already existing Medicare and Medicaid instead of trying to reinvent the wheel?

3 days left to change the presidential health care debate

Five leading advocates for Medicare for All today released a letter urging financial and other support for Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein. The letters writers were Dr. Andy Coates, Katie Robbins, Dr. Margaret Flowers, Mark Dunlea, and Gloria Mattera.

The advocates released their support letter as candidate Stein, a physician from Massachusetts who first became nationally known as an environmental health advocate, enters the final days of a push to qualify for federal matching funds. Stein has won 29 state primaries and has been declared the "presumptive nominee" of the Green Party by virtue of having won more than half the delegates to the Green Party convention. In the next few days she must reach fundraising goals in 7 additional states in order to qualify for federal matching funds.

Dear friends working for health care as a human right,

In all the sound and fury over the Supreme Court's health care ruling, the simple truth is being lost: We know how to provide affordable health care for every American. There is a proven solution -- improved "Medicare for All" (or single-payer health insurance). It's working in nation after nation around the world. It is the only fiscally responsible way out of the health care mess. And it's not unconstitutional.

When President Obama slammed the door in the face of single-payer health care advocates, and abandoned the "public option", it seemed that we were doomed to debating slight variations on the failing status quo. But in the wake of the Obamacare/Romneycare crackup, we have an incredible opportunity to reframe the health care debate by injecting a long-time advocate for Medicare-for-All (single-payer) into the presidential dialogue.

Jill Stein, a physician from Massachusetts, has just won 29 state primaries to secure the presidential nomination of the Green Party. She is a powerful voice for universal, affordable health care, and we need to make sure she is heard. But Dr. Stein needs our help. Thanks to an outpouring of support from across the nation, she is within striking distance of qualifying for federal matching funds. She only needs to raise $24,000 more by midnight on June 30. That's not much money in the big scheme of things. But it will make all the difference in making sure Jill Stein is on the ballot across the nation and can impact the health care debate this fall.

That's not much money to ask considering all the money we've spent trying to get Washington to listen to us. We can do it.
