The Brazilian Federal Constitution guarantees all prisoners the lack of corporal or infamous punishment. Respect for the dignity of the prisoner is a corollary of the penalty execution prescribed in the Law of Penalties Executions and in the Federal Constitution. Torture is a CRIME and should be treated as CRIME.
Unfortunately the use of torture is common in Brazilian prisons. This is a holdover from a brutal dictatorship that has not yet led to the punishment of policemen and soldiers who tortured and executed in Brazilian 1964/1988:
