AN URGENT CALL TO DONATE TO SAGIP-TULONG PILIPINAS AND TO THE PH GOVERMENT

Los Angeles---"Daig ng maagap ang masipag"

Time and time again, the Philippine government has failed in protecting the people from natural and man-made disasters. Instead, the government succeeded in prolonging the agony of the people for failing to deliver basic services to the people who are victims of natural disasters.

Thus ,the People's CORE , a 501 (C) 3 organization in Southern California announced that it is relaunching Sagip-Tulong Pilipinas (STP) and is accepting now, cash or check only donations for Sagip- Tulong Pilipinas (STP)-Emergency Relief to Mindanao flood victims.

Please send checks or cash: to People’s CORE, 1610 Beverly Blvd. Suite No. 2, Los Angeles, CA 90026. Please also write in the memo: STP-Mindanao 2011.

Sagip -Tulong Pilipinas (STP), 2011

This relief efforts is sponsored by Alliance-Philippines, Bantay -Pilipinas-LA, Justice for Filipinos American (JFAV), EPCC, KmB and other allied organizations in the United States.as a response to widespeard devastation cause by Thypoon “Sendong” in Northern Mindanao. As of the latest PNRC report, more than 1,000 people were killed, more than a thousand is still missing and more than 40,000 people remained homeless.

All donations more than $ 50,00 is tax-deductible. Please be generous and donate for our countrymen victims of "Sendong". With more 900 dead ,thousands missing and more than 400,000 homeless, they need our aid, now!

All donations will be send directly to thypoon victims in Cagayan De Oro City, the most devastated area hit by the eye of the storm and flash floods that came after.

The STP-Relief Mindanao 2011 decided to send cash/checks donation only because it will take time to send Balik-Bayan Boxes( almost two months) to Mindanao. We are pressed for time and our people need urgent help now.

A Urgent Call to the Philippine Government

The great floods of Central Luzon in 1972, the Luzon earthquake of 1990, the Ormoc tragedy in 1991 where 8,000 people, perished, Reming, Ondoy, and now Sendong are just examples of the inutility of Philippine authorities. Now, President Aquino has promised to make better the government response and we give him the benefit of the doubt.

It is up for him and his government to translate into actions his promise to make the Philippines a better place to live in so that no more Filipinos will be a slave in another land. And that the 12 million OFW’s can go home to a better and prosperous homeland.

For him to achieve this, we suggest that he do the following and address this to the Philippine government in general. This to make efforts more proactive than reactive.:

1.Implement the total log ban all over the Philippines. Save the last remaining 30% of our forest cover and launch a nation-wide reforestration drive. The DENR must see to it that this law is implemented so that legal and illegal logging must be stopped in Mindanao and all the watershed areas of our country.

2. Stop destructive extractive mining all over the Philippines. Remember what happened in Marinduque , Leyte and in Surigao. This will eventually stop the degradation and denudation of our mountains and widespread landslides all over the nation. Cater first to the need of the Filipino people and not of the foreign corporations.

3. Relocate all low-lying cities and squatters along the riverbanks and major waterways of major cities and towns and implement good and proper urban planning. Provide decent and proper housing to the people who will be relocated along Laguna Lake and major waterways.

4. Train, educate and organize the masses on disaster preparedness. Provide early warning system along waterways all over the countries and ready-made shelters so they will not use the schools for emergencies and disasters.

We will have a better Philippines if the government can do this.

Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!
