What: Protect Plummer Park Protest Rally
When: Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011 from 1:00pm-4:00pm
Where: Plummer Park, West Lawn
1200 N. Vista Street
West Hollywood, CA 90046
The destruction of heritage trees, the demolition of historic buildings and the exorbitant price tag during this country's worst economic crisis is raising questions and concerns.
* $41 Million renovation includes $10 Million underground parking structure,
to net 69 extra spaces
* Demolition of Great Hall/Long Hall, the only two WPA structures in the city and decimation of noted architect, Henry L. Gogerty's Fiesta Hall.
*Destruction of dozens of mature trees, some of which are over 125 years old.
*Closure of park for two years due to heavy construction
Protesters seek to have West Hollywood City Council Stop the current plan:
*Omit the underground parking structure to save trees and historic buildings
*Incorporate the restoration of the historic WPA buildings and maintain architectural integrity of Fiesta Hall
*Per the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation, have structures registered as historic landmarks and save, register and maintain heritage trees as historic trees.
Invited guests include: Local, state, and federal officials, regulatory agencies, environmentalists and celebrity supporters.
