U.S. Election 2012- Alexander: Obama?s war strategy is obvious, Election 2012

Alexander says, Obama?s troop withdrawal strategy is politically motivated; ?President Obama has fine-tuned the political rhetoric that kept President Bush in office for two terms.? But Obama will need more than political rhetoric to stay in office for a second term; approaching 10 years of war, Americans want the troops back home and Obama has not offered any plans that will help restore the economy and create good paying jobs.

In a nationally televised address, President Obama ordered a rapid withdrawal of 33,000 surge troops from Afghanistan; President Obama announced in his speech that the U.S. will remove 10,000 troops by the end of this year, and the total of the 33,000 surge troops will come home by September 2012.

President Obama’s decision to withdraw 33,000 troops by 2012 has been met with strong Republican opposition in both houses of Congress. A clear majority of Republicans support having a strong U.S. military presence in Afghanistan and Iraq throughout 2012 and going into 2013. The Democrats have supported Obama’s war strategy and will likely gain votes in 2012 based on the president’s decision.

U. S. Presidential Candidate Stewart Alexander says “The Republicans in Washington are hypocrites. The Republicans supported President George Bush using this same military/political campaign strategy that helped secure his second term as president; then shortly after he gained re-election in 2004, President Bush escalated his war in Iraq.”

Obama’s speech offered the American people no indication that the U.S. occupation in Afghanistan and Iraq will end anytime in the near future. By Election Day, November 2012, Obama’s military reduction strategy will leave 68,000 troops in Afghanistan and 50,000 in Iraq. Presently, there has been no reduction in combined U.S. military forces in Afghanistan and Iraq since President Obama took office in 2009.

During his 2008 presidential campaign, candidate Barack Obama promised the American people that he would end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan within his first nine months in office and would being all the American troops home; this promise helped to propel President Obama into the White House. Now, with the U.S. economy in a four year slump lingering in a deep recession, and 22 million Americans looking for work, President Obama is reverting to his old campaign promises to help secure the White House for a second term.

Alexander says, Obama’s troop withdrawal strategy is politically motivated; “President Obama has fine-tuned the political rhetoric that kept President Bush in office for two terms.” But Obama will need more than political rhetoric to stay in office for a second term; approaching 10 years of war, Americans want the troops back home and Obama has not offered any plans that will help restore the economy and create good paying jobs.

Stewart Alexander is seeking the U.S. Presidential Nomination for the Socialist Party USA, the Peace and Freedom Party- California, and the Green Party USA. Alexander is calling on the U.S. Congress to end all funding for the war in Afghanistan and the occupation of Iraq; and to cut all funding for the illegal U.S. military missions in Pakistan and Libya.
