Not long after President Obama delivered his May 19th speech addressing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and uprisings across the Middle East and North Africa, he was attacked for undermining Israel by conservative sectors of the U.S. pro-Israeli lobby, politicians of both parties and some influential newspapers. Specifically Obama was condemned by some for calling for Israelis and Palestinians to begin negotiations toward recognition of an independent Palestinian state using Israel’s pre-war1967 borders as a foundation for new talks. The same formula accepted by both Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.
