One day after the first anniversary on which President Obama signed his controversial health care reform bill, the Affordable Care Act, into law Vermont’s House of Representatives voted to establish the first single payer health care system in the United States. If the state Senate adopts the single-payer bill, as expected and it’s signed by Vermont’s Democratic Gov. Peter Shumlin, who supports the bill, all Vermonters will have access to heath insurance that supporters say will contain costs.
