We cannot commemorate this day until we realize fully the freedoms that the declaration guarantees. It will just be a continuing myth and not a reality. The reality is we have to fight for our freedoms and struggle to guarantee it.

COMMEMORATE INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS DAY. FIGHT FOR JUSTICE!

Today, December 10, 2010 we commemorate the 62nd year of the International Human Rights Day.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is a declaration adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 10 December 1948 at the Palais de Chaillot in Paris. The Declaration has been translated into at least 375 languages and dialects.

The Declaration arose directly from the experience of the Second World War and represents the first global expression of rights to which all human beings are entitled.

Today, the Alliance Philippines and all its allies in the United States and the Philippines affirm it respect for human rights and basic tenets of democracy and pledged to struggle for its genuine and real implementation. As we are aware of how capitalists and dark forces use the term for their selfish purposes.

FREE THE 43. FREE MUMIA ABU JAMAL

The Alliance is joyful that President Aquino III have ordered the dropping of charges against the Morong 43, a set of political prisoners jailed without sufficient charges under his regime. But we are not completely happy that other 6 detainees might not be freed because of new trumped up charges.

And the fact remained that there are at least more than 370 political prisoners locked up in Aquino III jails. More than 200 activist are still missing and nowhere to be found. That the peace talks is still in limbo although new talks are slated next year.

And here in the United States, more cutbacks are in stored for the people while the rich capitalist get tax cuts and pubic funds are given to them by trillions. Until now. After 64 years, the Filipino World War II veterans are unrecognized and their claims held up by the DVA. Filipino nurses are discriminated and told to “speak in English only.”

The Alliance also takes this occasion to call for the freedom of Mumia Abu Jamal and other political prisoners in the US jails and condemns the illegal arrest and trumped up charges against Julian Assange and the Wikileaks.

We cannot commemorate this day until we realize fully the freedoms that the declaration guarantees. It will just be a continuing myth and not a reality. The reality is we have to fight for our freedoms and struggle to guarantee it.
