Domestic Violence: A Never Ending Horror Story in Orange County

by Jake Martinez Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010 at 2:58 PM

Survival is a daily struggle for Orange County domestic violence victims

Orange County’s impotent District Attorney Tony Rackauckas continues to refuse to go after domestic abusers. So the police say and so surviving victims say.

Abusers are allowed to harass their victims post-restraining order at will and nobody in the system shows them any consideration. The police treat restraining orders as something untidy to be worked out by attorneys.

Last week, Christina Ramirez-Diaz, was found dead at her home, apparently a victim of domestic violence. Instead of helping Ramirez-Diaz when she was alive, the police waited until they just had to mop up the body

In July, 2010, Marisela Espinoza was killed by her husband. She was killed after trying to get her husband out of the house. It’s another mom-up operation, where the police and District Attorney failed to protect the victim. Watch commanders blame Rackauckas for their lack of interest in helping domestic violence victims. Why is Rackauckas so tight with batterers and not victims?

Look at Ruth Hull-Richter, the woman at the heart of the Public Guardian scandal. The press heard a recording of the husband attempting to murder his wife and he’s still out free. The husband was allowed to cancel all his wife’s insurance, including her health insurance while she was in the intensive care unit, and to encourage another male to continue the batteries where he left off. Batterers are allowed to beat their victims near death in Orange County and prevent them from getting treatment from the injuries.

Woman after woman in Orange County is getting no help or support of any kind from anyone but the undertaker. Many victims wake up each morning hoping it will be their last. For some, like Christina Rameriz-Diaz and Maria Espinosa, they get their wish.
