Socialist Party of California Installs New Chair for Los Angeles County

by Stephen Clarke Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010 at 3:06 AM

Emidio Soltysik, the new Socialist Party Los Angeles County Local Chair, says “It is the task of the Socialist Party to fight for progressive changes compatible with a socialist future, independent of the capitalist controlled two-party system, to present socialist alternatives for working people.”

New LA County Chair Mimi Soltysik Says Californians Need a Socialist Alternative

By Stephen Clarke
SP- California, Staff Writer

LOS ANGELES, CA (October 25,2010) - Last week, the Socialist Party of California took an important step toward reorganizing in California with the appointment of Emidio “Mimi” Soltysik, the new SP Los Angeles County Local Chair, and Lynn Lomibao, the new SP Los Angeles County Local Co-Chair.

Since 2009, the Socialist Party of California has been focused on growth and expanding membership in southern California, and networking with other left groups and organizations.

Stewart Alexander, the Socialist Party of California State Chair, says “The appointments of Mimi Soltysik and Lynn Lomibao will help the party achieve our short term and long term organizing goals. Both individuals are political activist, they have the necessary experience in community organizing, and the experience that comes from networking with individuals and other left groups across the state.”

Mimi Soltysik notes that the struggles of working people are no more apparent than in Los Angeles County with a population that is close to 10 million. Los Angeles County has been hit very hard by this recession: 1 in 5 individuals are receiving some means of public assistance and almost one million people are unemployed. Los Angeles County has the largest homeless population in the state, and hundreds of thousands of homeowners are struggling to prevent foreclosure. Soltysik says, “It is the task of the Socialist Party to fight for progressive changes compatible with a socialist future, independent of the capitalist controlled two-party system, to present socialist alternatives for working people.”

By mid November, Mimi Soltysik and Lynn Lomibao will announce locations and schedules for regular membership meeting for the Los Angeles County Local; the LA County Local will also be scheduling future meetings and events to be held throughout Los Angeles County. The public is invited to participate in all meetings and events.

For more information, contact Mimi Soltysik at (310) 409-3932. Updates on the Socialist Party Los Angeles County Local can be found online at
