The Leyte Landing, 1944

The Filipinos called the Leyte Landing on October 20, 1994 as the start of the liberation of the Philippines by the combined Filipino and American forces led by General Dougla Macarthur who landed in Leyte.

The landing was made more significance because the greatest naval battle in history happened around Leyte and is called the “Battle of Leyte Gulf ” where the American navy dealt the Japanese Imperial Navy its death blow.

From Leyte, the US forces made different landings in the different islands of the Philippines until the Japanese forces were defeated. But for other historians, the liberation of the Philippines is just the reoccupation of the United States.

But of the present, Filipino veteran are not recognized as American war veterans. More than 20,000 claimants of lump sum were denied by the DVA. This prompting the JFAV to file a case for veterans and widows.
