Demand La Opinion/KPCC 89.3 FM “Public” Radio Open Up The U.S. Senate Debate!

Tired of the same old “Punch and Judy” show that the corporate-owned mainstream media continues to befuddle the voters with every election cycle?

Demand La Opinion/KP...

DEMAND LA OPINION/KPCC 89.3 FM “PUBLIC” RADIO OPEN UP THE U.S. SENATE DEBATE TO ALL BALLOT-QUALIFIED CANDIDATES!

La Opinion, along with KPCC 89.3 FM, a “public” radio station, is co-hosting a “debate” between Senator Barbara Boxer and Carly Fiorina at their studios in Pasadena, California between 1 and 2 p.m. on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 29th:

http://www.scpr.org/about/press/la-opinion-and-893-kpcc-host-senatorial-debate-can/

Although La Opinion is a daily newspaper owned by a private corporate entity, KPCC 89.3 FM is supposedly a “public” radio station that receives a portion of its funds from “governmental sources”. It also solicits money from members of the general public.

The reason why KPCC 89.3. FM excludes other candidates is because Southern California Public Radio (SCPR), the “non-profit” entity that controls the station, has a Board of Directors comprised mostly of wealthy businessmen, company executives, and corporate lawyers:

http://www.scpr.org/about/people/board/

Like the owners of La Opinion, they don’t want candidates of other parties on the air because they’ll talk about real issues affecting working people in California. Their financial interests will be threatened if voters started electing candidates that serve them, and not the rich.

They want to continue duping people into thinking the only “choices” available to them are always going to be two multi-millionaires whose campaigns are literally underwritten from top to bottom by funding from Fortune 500 Companies and the Military-Industrial Complex.

SCPR not only controls KPCC 89.3 FM, but also KUOR 89.1 FM in Redlands pursuant to “public service” operating agreements with Pasadena City College and the University of Redlands. It also operates KPCV 90.3 FM in Coachella, which serves the Palm Springs area.

SCPR itself happens to be an affiliate of American Public Media Group (APMG), a “non-profit” entity which controls Minnesota Public Radio, American Public Media, and Classical South Florida. It also owns “for-profit” entities like the Greenspring Media Group:

http://americanpublicmediagroup.publicradio.org/companies/scpr.shtml

APMG too has a Board of Directors which, like SCPR is comprised mostly of — surprise, surprise — wealthy businessmen, company executives, and corporate lawyers:

Regardless of what your political affiliation is, we’re asking people who are sick and tired of “debates” being limited to candidates owned by Fortune 500 Companies to bombard KPCC 89.3 FM, SCPR, APMG, and La Opinion with emails, letters, faxes, and and phone calls.

DEMAND THAT LA OPINION/KPCC 89.3 FM OPEN THE DEBATE TO ALL BALLOT-QUALIFIED CANDIDATES IN THE U.S. SENATE RACE!

DEMAND THAT SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA PUBLIC RADIO LIVE UP TO THE VALUES IT ESPOUSES IN ITS MISSION STATEMENT!
