USAID: Funding Offshoring/Outsourcing of American Jobs to Sri Lanka

USAID is giving money to Sri Lanka to "train tech workers" who will eventually take American jobs away.

WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?

Thousands of tech workers in America are unemployed, but now million of our tax money is being funneled through USAID to Armenia and Sri Lanka to train workers to take over American jobs.

This bullshit must be stopped. Follow the link at the end of the article to find out who to contact in the government.

I suggest to Armenia and Sri Lanka that they get their own training the way 50% of American tech workers did: they got some shitty-ass cheap computer, and learned to program it by reading books. Nowadays, they can use the internet if they can get it - but books are still available.

I know these countries are poor, but there are still computers to be had. A lot of e-waste companies ship parts to China or Korea or other countries for recertification and resale. There are Pentium 4s at the American ewaste warehouses.

There's also something shady about USAID. It's often used to disguise war funding as humanitarian aid.

Sri Lanka is often in conflict, with fighting going on between Sinhala and Tamil. A training program could end up strengthening one side by allowing companies to funnel (launder) money (government contracts) by hiring these offshore workers (who will do no work at all).

According to an op-ed in Lankaweb (http://www.lankaweb.com/news/items/2010/05/30/discriminatory-practices-of-usaid-open-letter/)

"Media reports indicate that ‘U.S. Government supports IT sector employment opportunities for youth in Eastern Province (29.05.2010 – Asiantribune.com) ‘ Previous reports indicated that USA has offered scholarships for the Youth in the North and East As the North and the East are now occupied by Tamils, (previously the homeland of the Sinhalese and ethnically cleansed by Tamils ) this is open favoritism to Tamils and discrimination against other ethnic groups in Sri Lanka. This I feel is most unfair and displays racism, practiced by USA in their divide and rule policy in various parts of the world. Your discriminatory policies and divide and rule policies are so obvious and transparent."

Of course, that's just one person's opinion. The situation there seems complex and well beyond my quick comprehension. Here's a history:

http://rupeenews.com/2008/06/16/why-did-the-sinhalese-buddhist-lag-behind-tamils-in-british-ceylon/

That had a Sinhalese bias in it.

So is the US directing aid to the Tamils in order to create conflict against the Tamil military? Or is it aiding the Tamils and ignoring the Sinhalese?

Whatever the real motive is, it probably isn't simply to train poor people to use computers and take some American jobs. It's larger than that.

Armenia is located next to Turkey, Azerbaijan, Iran and Georgia. These areas are all involved in regional conflicts.

Armenia is involved in trying to invade Azerbaijan, in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which is majority Armenian. The CIA factbook says that the source of the conflict is that the USSR drew the borders so Nagorno-Karabakh was part of Azerbaijan instead of Armenia. Azerbaijan has a coastline on the Caspian Sea.

Armenia shares a small border with Iran.
