An hour-long conversation with Kenyan author Ngugi wa Thiong'o, someone who has spent his life writing for and about liberation. It will be focusing on his memoir, Dreams in a Time of War, a Childhood Memoir.
He is respected and beloved around the world for his path-breaking novels and plays that paint an unsparing picture of life in neo-colonial Kenya. His many works include Petals of blood, Wizard of the Crow, Matigari, I Will Marry When I Want, and Devil on the Cross. These works bring the oppressed onto the stage of history. They have also led to his being imprisoned more than once by the Kenyan regime.
He has contributed to the resistance to imperialist culture also by his theoretical work on postcolonial literature, including Decolonising the Mind. Ngugi is currently Distinguished Professor of English and Comparative Literature at the University of California, Irvine.
