What’s happens to a Korean trans woman when she accompanies her sister to the public bath? On August 28, 2010, the Trans/Giving arts collective presents its second annual TG Film Fest. The festival, held at the Renberg Theater (LA Gay and Lesbian Center, 1125 N. McCadden Pl, Hollywood, CA), continues to showcase entertaining, poignant, and intriguing visions from the queerest part of the LGBT spectrum. The suggested donation is $20, with no one turned away for lack of funds.

“Blink” comes from Silas Howard, whose “By Hook or Crook” won the Best Feature Award at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival. Iris prizewinner Lee Mi-Rang’s “The Bath,” is the festival’s first film from Korea. Calpernia Addams, the real-life subject of the Emmy-winning “Soldier’s Girl,” receives dating advice in “Transproofed.” Zsa-Zsa Gershick’s bladder-wrenching “Door Prize,” won for “Best Short” at the 2010 Kansas City Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.

From food to dating to bathrooms and yes, even sea cucumbers, the festival promises affirmation and surprises for everyone.

Outside the theater, there will be a DJ and live performances in the LA Gay and Lesbian Center Courtyard from 11:30 am to 9pm, with vendors selling art and crafts.

Trans/Giving is an award-winning series that showcases the immense talent of trans, genderqueer, and intersex artists from Los Angeles and around the world. “As a DIY collective, Trans/Giving does not charge admission to its events, but a $20 donation helps us continue to bring incredible festivals like this to the community,” says Cohen.

Since 2003, Trans/Giving has created a space for trans, genderqueer, and intersex artists to connect with audiences in southern California.
