With the theme: “Bringing People Together to Foster a Culture of Unity and Service”, more than 1,000 people attended the ball and the dinner. MHC gave awards to 18 awardees in their respective services to the community. Leading the awards were Retired General Antonio Taguba, Deputy Mayor Valerie Santos and human rights activist Mellisa Roxas. MHC Executive Director Atty, Arnedo Valera announced also announced during the ball that the MHC is collaborating with the Justice for Filipino American Veterans (JFAV) in pursuing a case against the DVA on delayed and denied payments for Filipino WWII veterans and benefits for Filipina widows.

MHC HOLDS SUCCESSFUL FIFTH ANNUAL PEOPLES BALL, JUNE 26, 2010

Washington, DC---The Migrant Heritage Commission (MHC) held a successful 5th People’s Ball last June 26, 2010 at the Marriot Wardman Park Hoel at NW Washington , DC.

With the theme: “Bringing People Together to Foster a Culture of Unity and Service”, more than 1,000 people attended the ball and the dinner.

MHC gave awards to 18 awardees in their respective services to the community. Leading the awards were Retired General Antonio Taguba, Deputy Mayor Valerie Santos and human rights activist Mellisa Roxas.

MHC Executive Director Atty, Arnedo Valera announced also announced during the ball that the MHC is collaborating with the Justice for Filipino American Veterans (JFAV) in pursuing a case against the DVA on delayed and denied payments for Filipino WWII veterans and benefits for Filipina widows.

TFC anchor Gel Santos-Rellos was the emcee during the program and the awards ceremonies. There was a cultural program and a lighting ceremony to welcome the new president of the Philippines. After that a night of dancing follwed.

The annual ball was initiated by MHC five years ago to honor the immigrants from the Philippines which spanned 105 years. MHC paid tribute to the efforts of millions of migrants who came to the US in pursuit of good life for their families.
