A Comcast takeover of NBC would mean higher prices, fewer choices, and could spark a wave of new media mergers. It would give one company too much control of what we can watch and how we can watch it.

What’s At Stake?

A Comcast takeover of NBC would mean higher prices and fewer choices. It would give one company too much control of what we can watch and how we can watch it.

After its takeover of NBC, Comcast would control one in every five television viewing hours. Comcast serves customers in 39 states and reaches close to 24 million homes in the United States – that’s nearly one in four homes that subscribe to cable. NBC owns movie studios, broadcast networks, cable networks, a huge stake in the online video service, Hulu, as well as 26 local broadcast stations that reach nearly one-third of U.S. households. NBC affiliates reach nearly every home in America.

In a poll by Consumerist.com, America voted and dubbed Comcast the worst company in America for 2010. They have been caught blocking their own customer's internet connections, they fire workers who try to join unions, they spend hundreds of thousands on lobbying, and CEO Brian Roberts is ranked one of America’s top five overpaid executives.
