Saturday, May 29th, Human Rights March, 8am gathering time: 5 mile long march converging at State Capitol. There will be live music at the beginning and end of march. For more info see http://altoarizona.com/events.html http://puenteaz.org/ 50,000 predicted for immigration march Saturday Opponents of Arizona's tough new crackdown on illegal immigration are planning a protest march in Phoenix on Saturday. Organizers briefed reporters about the march on Tuesday. They say they predict upward of 50,000 marchers will come from around the country. Opponents plan to demand that President Barack Obama order federal immigration authorities not to accept custody of illegal immigrants brought in under the Arizona law. And they want the Obama administration to revoke agreements that allow local police departments to enforce federal immigration laws. The march is being organized by labor unions and civil rights groups. Supporters of Arizona's law also plan a protest on Saturday

it would be far more effective for these people to protest against NAFTA instead of the illegal immigration problem. Are foundations funding these diversions from the real source of all this misery of no jobs, migrations of desperation and ruptured social and economic systems? Most likely. Selective enforcement and conflicts of interests are the order of the day. Have the victims [ the working class ] attack themselves instead of melding their core outrage. You are attacking a symptom. Not the disease.

Rival rallies supporting and opposing Arizona's new immigration law will turn the Valley into a crossroads for protests this weekend, with organizers predicting their events will draw thousands from Arizona and across the country.
Local police will not say exactly how many people they expect each event to draw, but there was a possibility of large crowds downtown and in Tempe as groups on both sides of the issue hold major events Saturday.
Saturday will begin with a march and rally through Phoenix by opponents, with supporters rallying in Tempe late in the day.
Both sides are trying to build support in what has become an emotional, and sometimes divisive, debate over the new law approved by the Arizona Legislature as Senate Bill 1070 and signed by Gov. Jan Brewer.
The law has generated national debate, prompting boycotts of Arizona, counter boycotts, lawsuits, condemnation from the Obama administration and moves in some states to create similar legislation.
"Arizona has become the testing ground for the most draconian anti-immigrant legislation in our country," Pablo Alvarado, executive director of the National Day Laborer Organizing Network, said Tuesday.
"It is in Arizona, and similar states, where the immigration debate has been polluted with hate and poisoned by bigotry."
The anti-1070 group predicted about 50,000 marchers, maybe more, for its "March Against SB 1070" that will wind through central Phoenix. However, Phoenix Vice Mayor Michael Nowakowski conservatively estimated about 20,000.
The pro-1070 group will hold its "Stand with Arizona" rally at Tempe Diablo Stadium Saturday evening. Its organizers expect a crowd of about 10,000.
Both sides say supporters are bussing to their events from across the country, and both have more events planned through the summer. The new law takes effect July 29.
Arizona's immigration law makes it a state crime to be in the country illegally.
It states that an officer engaged in a lawful stop, detention or arrest shall, when practicable, ask about a person's legal status when reasonable suspicion exists that the person is in the U.S. illegally.
The Phoenix march will start at Steele Indian School Park, near Indian School Road and Third Street, and end at the state Capitol, where a rally will feature labor leaders like Richard Trumka, president of the AFL-CIO, and politicians including outspoken Democratic U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez of Illinois.
A group of African-American clergy from California will also join the march.
Phoenix police declined to say how many officers it will have at the event, but the agency and the Arizona Department of Public Safety were expected to staff up in case larger-than-expected crowds materialize.
"We'll have enough to maintain the peace," Sgt. Brian Murray said.
Opponents of the law want the federal government to bar state and local police from enforcing immigration law and to refuse to take custody of anyone arrested under the new law. They also support legal efforts to block enactment of the law.
Maricopa County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox said the march and rally would underscore what she described as a climate of fear among Hispanic residents.
"It has opened up a racist state," she said.
The Tempe event, meanwhile, was organized by "tea party" groups that support the law.
The rally will promote an Arizona "buycott" urging people to spend money in the state to counter boycott efforts.
Gina Loudon, a St. Louis radio host who came up with the buycott idea, said the goal is to render boycotts ineffective.
"No matter how you feel about the issue, it is ridiculous to punish business owners with a boycott," she said in a statement about the event.
Phillip Dennis, a Dallas tea-party member and an organizer of the Tempe event, said he felt it was wrong to impose a boycott over the state trying to secure its border.
"Arizona has the right to protect its economy and its citizens, and we stand behind their right to do that," he said. "The federal government has failed to protect the border. Obviously, the federal government is not going to enforce the law."
Loudon will speak at that event, along with Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and others.
Tempe said it will have about 20 police officers at the event.

this could be the start of the real revolution here. To turn this event into a declaration of unity to end the core problems of economic dislocation and drug violence along the border which, on case you may not know, is of great concern to the people of the border regions. It will not be stopped with demonstrations in fact, this is a crafted distraction to avoid the cause of the devastation which is the Wars on Labor. We see here all the elements of a war. Armed presence, a conflict with two 'opposing' sides and an economic incentive for conflict. Both of which will end up losing in an orchestrated collision. The problems are a ruinous trade policy which resulted in a destroyed industrial and agricultural base and a era of rampant looting of treasuries for other cooked up conflicts.
But this sure serves the bastards who did this to us by getting us at each other's throats while they dance in plenty. Both sides would join, if offered a chance to attack their common enemy. NAFTA War on: Drugs Iraq Afghanistan
and not against another class of victims, on both sides, through the effects of actually FIGHTING EACH OTHER over the crumbs. We need to join together, now in knowledge of who is standing on all of our necks.
And this is the worst fear these unspeakable creatures have.

California Penal Code Section 834b sounds a lot like Arizona’s anti illegal-immigration bill minus no racial profiling! Hypocrites!
All the boycotts of Arizona called for by California cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego are not only pure stupid, but turning out to be quite hypocritical as well. I’m hoping Arizona decides to boycott California as they continue to dig themselves into a ditch of debt they may never recover from. We know these big cities in California are sanctuary cities when it comes to illegals, just like Phoenix has been for many years. But you might be interested to know what the actual law in California really is:
(a) Every law enforcement agency in California shall fully
cooperate with the United States Immigration and Naturalization
Service regarding any person who is arrested if he or she is
suspected of being present in the United States in violation of
federal immigration laws.
(b) With respect to any such person who is arrested, and suspected
of being present in the United States in violation of federal
immigration laws, every law enforcement agency shall do the
following:
(1) Attempt to verify the legal status of such person as a citizen
of the United States, an alien lawfully admitted as a permanent
resident, an alien lawfully admitted for a temporary period of time
or as an alien who is present in the United States in violation of
immigration laws. The verification process may include, but shall not
be limited to, questioning the person regarding his or her date and
place of birth, and entry into the United States, and demanding
documentation to indicate his or her legal status.
(2) Notify the person of his or her apparent status as an alien
who is present in the United States in violation of federal
immigration laws and inform him or her that, apart from any criminal
justice proceedings, he or she must either obtain legal status or
leave the United States.

status and provide any additional information that may be requested

(c) Any legislative, administrative, or other action by a city,
county, or other legally authorized local governmental entity with
jurisdictional boundaries, or by a law enforcement agency, to prevent
or limit the cooperation required by subdivision (a) is expressly
prohibited.
So any one “suspected” of being present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws and law enforcement is required to verify the person’s citizenship? Actually this law is more strict than Arizona! Who would have thunk it? California’s anti illegal-immigration laws are stronger than the “controversial” Arizona law that progressive liberals are whining so hard about. Yet these laws are never enforced in California. Why is that? Is the law enforcement in the state simply not doing their jobs? Is it the politicians interfering? What’s up with this anyway? In Arizona, you have to actually have committed a crime or a traffic violation in order to be “questioned” about your citizenship in order to prevent racial profiling. California’s “law” has no such requirement, and does NOT prevent racial profiling. California should change their name to Hypocritifornia!

who is drumming up all this noise about one particular issue when the core issue and the reason for all this economic migration is the ruinous trade policies that have thoroughly screwed the hell out of our standard of living, labor wages or even the jobs we used to work full time, with benefits at. We are all equal victims, not adversaries. Hang the bastards of Wall Street and their lackeys who pass this shit legislation against us, the people.
