LOS ANGELES, CA—The music and queer communities of Southern California can expect a rare treat as Trans-Genre holds its nationwide release party for Trans-Fusions II Saturday, March 6 at the Palms Bar (8572 Santa Monica Blvd) in West Hollywood. Performances start at 10 pm, followed by the smoking hot DJ Ono-Sendai spinning electro until 2. Better yet, the first 150 PEOPLE RECEIVE A FREE CD!
The show features the legendary Shawna Virago, declared “the sex symbol laureate of the West Coast transgender music scene” by Eros Magazine; hip-hip heartthrob Josh Klipp, from Logo TV and the L-Word; Ryka Aoki, recently featured in Curve Magazine, as well as the documentaries “Diagnosing Difference” and “Riot Acts;” the multifaceted filmmaker/performer Metahuman, the current creative force behind LA’s own Trans/Giving, and North Carolina’s Modern Day Pinocchio, founder of Trans-Genre, fresh off his latest national tour with his blend of queer techno Southern rock.
Trans-Genre’s groundbreaking first release, “Trans-Fusions” was one of the most welcome surprises of 2009. Featuring the finest trans-identified spoken word artists and musicians from North America and Europe, such as Rahne Alexander, Coyote Grace, Sassafras Lowrey and Kestryl Cael, the CD introduced scores of new listeners to the creative power of the transgender community.
Trans-Fusions II continues to offer up emerging and established artists including Actor Slash Model, Athens Boys Choir, and The Degenerettes. Trans-Fusions is like discovering a new favorite radio station where electro, indie rock, and hip-hop mingle, and gender transgression is the norm. And, again, 150 copies will be given away—FOR FREE.
The Palms is a unique venue, celebrating 40 years as a lesbian bar and host to the bi-weekly transgender event “Club Illusions”.
