Today, February 06 does exact 316 years that it happened one of the largest atrocities committed in Brazil.
In 06/02/1694 Zumbi and their black warriors, already without gunpowder, they break the fence to the Mocambo dos Macacos (town of the monkeys) and they retreat for the Brazilian forest, pursued by Vieira de Melo. Domingos Jorge Velho occupies the Quilombo dos Palmares (town of the palm trees) and he tells that "the soldiers decapitated all that found" (some 500 people).
The Mocambo dos Macacos and the Quilombo dos Palmares were towns constituted for the most part by African blacks that escaped from the captivity. In colonial Brazil the slaves that escaped from the Sugarmills established societies based in the property common of the earth of the which they participated former-slaves, Indians and poor Brazilians descending of Indians and black.
