Word has it that after ending her tenure as Pacifica's Interim Executive Director, former board chair Grace Aaron is demanding that the board pay her retroactively for health benefits that were never agreed to.

Some may recall that last spring the Pacifica National Board briefly had on its public agenda a motion to pay board chair Grace Aaron for serving as Interim Executive Director. (Several months earlier, she had agreed to serve without pay.) But that item was quickly moved to closed session. There, apparently, the board voted to pay her a large flat percentage of the prior Executive Director's salary.

Aaron, who actually resigned from her local (L.A.) board in December and therefore had no legal basis for remaining on the national board, let alone as chair, was replaced as Interim Executive Director by a permanent hire at the beginning of December.

Now word has it that long after the start of the fiscal year in October, Aaron suddenly demanded that the board pay her retroactively for health benefits that were never agreed to.

It seems that last week the outgoing board rejected her unbudgeted demand. So now she and her allies are agitating to get the new board, in its first meeting in D.C. this weekend, to cough up the ,000+ in extra compensation. Never mind that more than a third of this year's board members are new and so don't know the history. So much for Aaron's loudly professed concern for safeguarding Pacifica's highly stressed finances!
