The covering of the media concerning the Convention of the Climate in Denmark has been spectacular. As in many other cases, which the media doesn't publish are much more relevant than the reproduction of the blá-blá-blá of the politicians gathered in the old continent.
Let us see the case of the consumption of petroleum:
"The armed forces of the country (USA) they consume about 85 million barrels (of petroleum) a year, becoming the largest individual consumer of fuel of the country and maybe of the world." (Sônia Shah, CRUDE: The Story of Oil)
It is impossible a significant decrease of the emissions of carbon if the USA soldiers continue to consume so much petroleum. The vicious circle in that they are arrested is evident.
The invasion of Iraq evidenced that the American soldiers make war for petroleum because they spend a lot of petroleum to do new wars for petroleum. Summarizing: the American soldiers pollute more because they want to continue to pollute more. But they are polluting our atmosphere (as if it went exclusively of them).
The only way to remedy our problem is to force the USA soldiers reduce the consumption of fuel. Will Obama make this? I doubt a lot.
