Anti-war protests expected next week

by FYI Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009 at 12:16 AM

Obama is expected to announce an escalation of the US war against the people of the Middle East next week. The only possible good that might come from this would be renewed anti-war actions in the US. Please consider organizing to take direct action to stop the war by any means necessary!

Advice for would be protesters and organizers

1. DO NOT GO TO THE FEDERAL BUILDING TO PROTEST. 2. Do not attend any ANSWER events. 3. Do not support any permit marches or work with the police in any manner.

DO: Take direct action to stop the war now!

Why not the federal building and why not ANSWER? I'm not trying to argue, just hoping you can expound upon this. Some of us don't take orders.

I do think demonstrations/vigils have value--but many of us have been demonstrating for seven or more years, and where have we gotten?

IMO, if everyone in the anti-war movement were to emulate the people of San Francisco in early 2003, our occupations/adventures in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan... would end.

Here's footage of San Francisco in early 2003:

agreed. change words from "march" militarily to "peacewalkers"

by tired out of futile Police led parades Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009 at 10:45 PM

agreed. But there does not seem to be much inclination to 'anything' other than buy purchase borrow eat and watch text msgs.

agreed. the same old same old is just a farce, a pretend exhibition of those who want to think the world of the 60's and elsewhere and before is still effective in this 2009 Los Angeles now.

Nope.

Federal bldg is well fortified and while Wilshire is a fun and busy street with a few drivers glancing our way when a large group stands on the corner, most just drive by talking on their cell phones and a bare few honks are given in the drive-by described by cell to their "what are you doing now ?' friends.

And Answer is the same group that has it's own agenda which is far from just anti-war... but politically slanted and geared to certain propaganda views that are not related directly to USA war directive and military actions taken by our govt.

Agreed. There needs to be another form of VISIBILITY, AUDIBILITY, PUBLIC-CITY and of interest to more than the same people who show up for anything where they can smile at their old friends, catch up, and go home proud of their ability to stand, shout, and still walk...for an hour or two.

Nothing dangerous. Nothing noteworthy. Nothing to get excited about. Nothing to write home about, tho many probably do so.

Agreed. but by only a few without clever effective action ideas or groups willing to do much in this dependent,

consumerist, self-centered-only, image-concerned, and spoiled-children USA we all live in here.

too bad.

specific suggestions and informative exhortations of what to do to prove we really DO CARE about all the war dead, civilians included, financial debts included,

false military stories and medals included, and that some people are willing to do more than merely

do a police-parade with cops on expensive motorbikes in front and back 'leading' and monitoring the followers caught in their midst.

Yep.

Same old stuff is not working no more....now what ?
