JFAV/ FIL-AMS ALL SET FOR VETERANS DAY PROTEST MARCH ON NOVEMBER 11 IN LA

Los Angeles – CLAIMS DELAYED IS JUSTICE DENIED! DEMAND JUSTICE!

For more than eight years the Justice for Filipino American Veterans (JFAV) commemorate Veterans Day with an annual parade around Historic Filipinotown in Los Angeles to honor the Filipino World War II. This years 2009 will be different.

Led by JFAV- a national alliance of veterans, youth and students and AWARE, composed of widows and seniors, the Filipino American community will hold a protest march towards downtown Los Angeles to the Federal building to dramatize their protest against long delays and slow-processing of the veterans claims.

The JFAV protest march will start at FACLA compound at 1740 W. Temple St. Los Angeles, CA 90026. Assembly will start at 7:00 PM. A program will be held inside the FACLA Hall and the march will commence at 10;00 AM. Invited guest is Assemblyman Kevin De Leon of the 45th District.

March to the Federal Building in downtown.

An estimated 300 JFAV rallyist will march from FACLA to the intersection of Los Angeles St and Temple and hold a rally from 11;00 AM to 12;00 PM. The veterans, widows and seniors will ride on vehicles provided by JFAV

JFAV mass campaign coordinator Ernest Tamayo said: “ we continue to receive numerous complaints from Filipino World War II veterans on the slow process of their claims. That is why we are marching to protest these delays which is a travesty of justice.”

“ More than five months now when the Stimulus Bill was passed and only less than a thousand Filipino veterans in the United States have received their checks. Despite repeated assurances by DVA, we ( veterans) want to know what keeping the claims so slow” This was the remarks on the Society of Guerillas and Scouts (SGS) Commander Nick Gadia of Los Angeles.

JFAV pointed out that this is a contrast to the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) claims that more than 25% of the veterans have received their claims. At the same time Philippine Ambassador Willy Gaa admitted that more than 32,627 claims have been filed. More 2,000 claims were rejected or denied by the DVA.

Filipino American student group as far as San Diego will be driving up to LA. Meanwhile similar actions are expected to be held in San Francisco, New York and Chicago by JFAV allied groups.
