It is a running discussion about the future of Informativo Pacifica, a KPFK spanish language news program.

El discurso es sobre el futuro del Informativo Pacifica, un programa de KPFK en Espanol.

Is any hope left?

by Oscar Saturday, Sep. 19, 2009 at 1:48 PM

I don't see how listeners can overcome the money that has financed Grace Aaron and Ian Masters. I have given up on Pacifica and KPFK as a lost cause.

If someone knows some grounds for hope, I am listening.

But, as of the moment. to me it looks like KPFK, RIP.

Yes, like Pirate Cat

by mous Monday, Sep. 21, 2009 at 7:46 PM

There have been some micropower radio stations that have done little to advance society. While a small radio station *is* a political act, it's less of a political act than a real community radio station.

Some retaliation and rumors are not to be belivied as Is...

by reader of more than here Tuesday, Sep. 22, 2009 at 12:28 PM

Spanish language programing on KPFK has been shifted in time and of course, major revot reactions and retaliations are 'in order'....trying to get MORE time, better placement, more power and influence at the station and whatever those invested in producing and airing their programs do...

to get ahead...

for their game is no different than anyone else's...

any change is seen immediately as "unfair" and a threat and unnecessary and any gain is seen as earned and a sign of their popularity. Not necessarily so.

That there is complaints, accusations, articles written to hope to change back into the usual slot where Informativo was is going to be as viscious as the investors [not financially but politically for influence]
are. Their demands of course come with malicoous accusations, with claims of victimhood and implied racism and anything that will get them further points to return to where they had achieve a spot on KPFK.

If there are no changes, no improvements, no shifts for better programming and better timing of better shows on KPFK, there will be no Informativo at any hour as other stations apparently dont want them at all.

Complaints accompanied with personal vendettas are a common form of trading shots with these folks...
havent you heard from them before ?

Why bother with KPFK?

by Fredric L. Rice Wednesday, Sep. 23, 2009 at 11:25 AM
frice@skeptictank.org

I have asked the question before and yet nobody seems to be able to come up with any answer. Why bother with KPFK any more?

It's not worth saving or fighting for or trying to rebuild. I understand the desire to regain something good that has since been lost, but one really can't go home again, the past is past and KPFK is history. What's left today is so profoundly worthless, why even bother? Why expend the energy when it's silly and pointless?

Tilting at windmills may be good exercise, but one should choose battles worth fighting and capable of being won.

Everyone else has abandoned KPFK, why don't you? (No offense intended, I'm seriously wondering.)
