Filipino Veterans Rejects Corpus Appointment as OVA Chief

Los Angeles-- Different veterans groups in the United Stares protests the appointment of retired general Victor Corpus to the RP Embassy by the Philippine president Gloria M. Arroyo.

Present Office of the Veterans Affairs (OVA) person is Ret. Gen. Delfin Lorenzana is being replaced by a known GMA psychopath, retired ISAFP general Victor Corpus. Corpus is a know loyal GMA supporter.

Veterans Rejects Corpus as OVA Chief

Ret. General Victor Corpus was a former NPA rebel. He went back to the military after EDSA uprising of 1986. He was commissioned by President Cory Aquino as a colonel in 1987. He was promoted as a general by President Arroyo , appointed as AFP Inteligence chief and retired as a general. He currently lives in Virginia in the East Coast.

Corpus was the co-author of the Oplan Lambat Bitag in 1987, a counter-insurgency campaign used by the AFP and was extended up to the Estrada regime. He figured prominently against the RAM and the Magdalo rebel forces in the Oakwood mutiny and failed uprising in 2005.

Different veterans leaders from the different veterans organizations like the ACFV , VFP and the SGS are united in saying:

" He ( retired general Corpus) will not help the veterans. He is a political appointee of GMA., he will just push the GMA agenda in the US and spy on GMA's enemies. We want Lorenzana stint to be extended."

Lorenzana Backs Out

One such proposal is the suggestion of Franco Arcebal of ACFV to extend the term of Ret. Gen. Delfin Lorenzana to six months. But Lorenzana declined the veterans request and opted to follow the president appointment.. He just criticized the fact that he just learned from the media his dismissal. This has been a pattern in the Arroyo administration.

ACFV Lachica and Lorenzana have requested a meeting with USVA officials with the veterans to enable the veterans to suggest further ways of speeding up the process. This came at the crucial time of Lorenzana's dismissal from office and Corpus' appointment.

“Time is really crucial here, because most of the vets are very old and frail,” . “They’ve waiting so long, and I can understand their frustrations.”
