The South Central Skankers: Welcome to Lost Angeles

Los Angeles June 1, 2009 – After much anticipation, Captiva Records is proud to announce the release of South Central Skankers debut album, Welcome to Lost Angeles, on June 6! The band will rock out at the L.A. SKACORE Invasion 2009 in honor of their CD release that day.

The SCS first formed in the barrios of South Central LA in 2001. In the fall of 2003, SCS went to the studio to record their first L.P. After meeting Chris Perez, President and CEO of Captiva Records, The South Central Skankers have now played four years at the well-known Captiva Showcase during South By Southwest where they gained the reputation for supreme rock-ability.

“The Skankers just blew me away with their live performance. They got the whole club jumping and their sound brought people in off the street. They've gotten better year after year with some great songwriting and powerful arrangements. We've waited a long time for this record," said Perez. "The band made a lot of sacrifices, dealt with studio politics and worked through the budget hurdles but the wait was worth it. The record is a great representation of the band's sound with its strong hooks, dynamic horn section, solid vocals, and its groove infused mix of a variety of different musical styles."

The inspiration for the album's title, Welcome to Lost Angeles, originates from LA's dual reality. The glamorous, sunny beaches that the media portrays are in stark contrast to the dilapidated reality that lies beneath.

The Skankers combine ska, punk, metal, Latin and reggae to create an out of body experienced that can’t be replicated. They show up with a five-piece, mad brass section, a walking baseline and unique, offbeat guitar chords that can’t help but entice people to get off their feet and SKANK! Skanking can only be described as the single most extreme motion attainable by the human being and is really the only way to cut loose and dance. Lets just say

The South Central Skankers do not discriminate; they intoxicate! Their unique and upbeat sounds attract people of all ages and from all walks of life.

The album will be available globally for digital download on June 9 on sites like Rhapsody and iTunes. For more information about the release and the band visit www.myspace.com/scskankers
