Ask the head librarian if that poster of Villaragosa can be removed ....and you get that blank stare of daring to confront the Powerful and their feudal vandals..."of course not !" It is required by all LA City libraries to prominently post his picture to prove he owns LA and all the public facilities.
what does that say about that man ?
Always promoting himself in every single way possible, campaigning while on the city's payroll dime, pretending this is what he 'must do' as a Mayor ....huh?
see LA Weekly articles about same topic.
see these and other places as well
http://www.laweekly.com/2008-09-11/news/the-all-about-me-mayor http://www.laweekly.com/2008-02-07/news/city-hall-s-black-hole http://www.laweekly.com/2008-08-28/news/grim-sleeper And he is running again and hopes that if his picture and white teethed smile helps people remember he is "our leader" he will be back in power again as Mayor and then Governor and maybe even President... hopefully, he thinks...or seems to want more and more and more...
apparently this same man promised that he would fulfill his time at his previous job and not walk away to campaign for mayor - last time -let's not forget what he is doing again this time - and he dropped his last job before fulfilling his duties to climb UP, of course !
no obligation or responsibility...just climb up.
Ever been to another country where every business and many homes too are required to have posted up for all to see their alliances to their President, Mayor, Tribal leader ? Sukarno had this going well in Indonesia for many years. The Queen of England and those before her has it also. French Kings did the same. Many African rulers definitely do it. Why not also Antonio Villaragosa, the LA Mayor ?
Because it is using public facilities and public monies to promote himself personally and politically and he is taking unfair advantage of his being in any govt position to do so. Incumbent benefits ? No fair play.
Others do it too ?
That doesnt make it honorable or salutory or acceptable.
It was this mayor, AV, who also upped all our LA Municipal 'solid waste' [garbage pick up] utilities, which means poor renters pay about $6 per week, raised dramatically w/o any vote or agreement by the city's citizens, only by this man's choice. He claimed he is using garbage collection pick up fees to pay for more police on the streets of LA....right....instead of using any real taxes, he uses 'fees' as 'taxes' and exorbitantly so !
Let's get rid of that kind of guy and vote for anyone else, you name them, any one but him.
Out, Antonio, you have set a lousy example of yourself as crown prince [wishing for it anyhow] and hero.
You aint one.
If it was not for the hispanic vote,he would never have got where he is in the first place. He and his sidekick Wendy Gruell are a joke.Neither of them care about the people, it's all about them, he has narcisstic personality. I only hope and pray neither one of them get in.I wish Laura Chick could run for Mayor. She is the only person that can be trusted. Anybody but him.
I won't be voting for Councilman Garcetti either, and I don't recommend voting for Reyes. Both of them are supporting a large development on a wildlife corridor in Echo Park (which is described in a story on the Environment page), even though there's unanimous opposition to it in the community.
Garcetti likes to create an image as being "green," but like everyone else in City Hall, he really represents developers. He did drive an electric car, but when people resisted GM's recall of those cars, Garcetti was nowhere to be seen. (Of course, he appeared in the film Who Killed the Electric Car, but that years much later.)
He's interviewed in the film Escape From Suburbia. He tries to come across as "green," but when asked about the demolition of the South Central Farm, there's an awkward moment, and then he says something lame.
I don't remember if Sleazar...Huizar is up for re-election, but he, along with Villaraigosa, went back on his strong campaign promise to protect the Southwest Indian museum in Mt. Washington.
Also, during a Council session re: the South Central Farm circa 2006, an eight-year-old girl said that the farm was her only source of food. He yawned while she said this. I saw this in person, and it got into the movie Escape From Suburbia.
IMO, the real gang problem in L.A. is the gangsters in City Hall.
