VETERANS DAY COMMEMORATIONS TO BE HELD NATIOWIDE FROM NOV. 6-11, 2008

Los Angeles- “Despite delays in passing the Filipino Veterans benefits and equity bill in the US Congress this year, the Filipino American community is highly hopeful the reconciled bill will pass this year. This will be the focus of the Veterans Day commemoration nationwide from Hawaii to Washington DC ” JFAV National Coordinator Arturo P. Garcia boldly announced this optimistic prediction.

Mass actions and commemorative events will be held all over the United States to mark the Veterans Day, November 11. from November 6 to 11 in Hawaii, California, Washington DC and Chicago, Illinois

- In Los Angeles, On November 8, the 8th Justice for Filipino American Veterans (JFAV) VETERANS DAY PARADE and Community Fair will be held in Historic Filipinotown, Los Angeles. The march and Community Fair will be start and ends at LAKE STREET PARK,227 N. Lake St. Los Angeles, CA 90026. Guest speakers at the community fair are Congressman Xavier Becerra and Deputy Consul General Daniel Espiritu of the Los Angeles Consulate General of the Philippines.

- On November 6, the ACFV in Hawaii will hold a PARANGAL( Tribute) to the Filipino World War II Veterans and Senator Daniel Inouye who is expected to move for the passage of the equity and benefits bill in the US Congress at the Philippine Consulate General in Hawaii.

- On November 11, the traditional Veterans Day Parade will be held in San Francisco. The JFAV San Francisco announced that it will also hold commemorative activities with the veterans organizations in the Bay Area on November 10.

On November 11, in Washington DC, the ACFV will hold a breakfast and a memorial offering in the Arlington National Cemetery to honor the veterans with the coordination with the Philippine Embassy and main American veterans groups.
