The Los Angeles Shambhala Center presents a public talk and Zen archery workshop given by Kanjuro Shibata Sensei over the weekend, Oct 30 and November 1st and 2nd.

The Los Angeles Shambhala Center presents a public talk and Zen archery workshop given by Kanjuro Shibata Sensei over the weekend, Oct 30 and November 1st and 2nd.

This 20th generation master bow maker and Zen archer from Japan will appear for the first time in Los Angeles at the Shambhala Meditation Center at 963 Colorado Blvd., Los Angeles, 90041, at Figueroa and Colorado Blvd. in Eagle Rock.

In his talk “The Way to be a Human,” Shibata Sensei describes how a bold heart and fierce compassion exemplify the archetype of the peaceful warrior, in the tradition of Shambhala beliefs. He traveled to the United States previously in 1980 to teach Kyudo (Zen archery) to western meditation students.

On November 1 and 2, from 10am to 5pm, Shibata Sensei will teach a class in Zen archery for beginners—“Kyudo: The Way of the Bow – First Shot with Kanjuro Shibata Sensei”.




The weekend intensive will include instruction in the basic form, shichi-do, or Seven Coordinations, of Kyudo. Beginners and all levels of practitioners over the age of 8 are welcome. Necessary equipment will be provided. Instruction will be by senior student Sam West as well as Kanjuro Shibata Sensei.
