After years of inactivity and police repression, a new Whittier Food Not Bombs is emerging this Sunday. The ragtag group of folks plans on serving free food to the Uptown Whittier community every first and third Sunday of the month. Using collected donations and surplus foods, they will begin the first month of serving this Sunday, Sept. 7th 1PM at Central Park, amidst reports of readied police repression.

Despite these reports, according to FNB member Nadia, “we know what happened years ago with the old Whittier FNB, about the arrests, about the precedents that were set, and we feel comfortable knowing our rights and doing whatever it takes to share food”.

The group aims to show that “food is abundant. It’s a right, not a privilege and we shouldn’t be relying on the government or capitalism to insure that we will have our basic needs met. What we need is for folks to come together, work together.”

The group is also sending out a call for volunteers; cooks, servers, etc.
