The US policy surronding the borders wall being built along the US-Mexican border murdered a 14 year old girl and thousands of others.
the US governement has a STATED policy of murdering men, women and children in the southern border regions of the US. the policy surrounding the border wall on the US-Mexican border as it stands right now states that they (DHS and the border patrol) acknowledge that there will be hardships for those who cross the border illegally into the US and that those hardships will include the deaths of some individuals.
In February of this year one of those 'hardships' included the death of a 14 year old girl named Josefina. Josefina left Guatamala with her 10 year old brother and no other option for their survival other than to cross the border at Sasabe south of Tucson Az. Her parents had crossed into the US already and were unable at the time to bring Josefina with them so she was left in the care of other relatives is Guatmala. It soon became apparent that she needed to come to the US with her brother as the family had little to no food and no clean water and that she might well die. She took one final photo before spedning what little money she had to get to the border. Althought the longest part of her trip it was the easiest too, she had no way to know that the road which lies ahead would be fatal. After 4 days in the harsh arizona desert Josefina and her brother became ill as a result of eating bad Tuna and contaminated water, the canned Tuna was the only thing they had eaten since crossing the border. Josefina soon became too sick to carry on with the group she had crossed with and her brother had became so sick and emaciated due to diharea and vomiting that he could be carried the remaining distance by other members of the group, Josefina was not so lucky. She soon found herself lost and alone north of the Bartolo Mountain region between Nogales and 50 miles south of Tucson. The doctors who did her autopsy 3 weeks after she died say she had wandered sick from dehydration and food poisoning for 2 weeks before sitting down near the river where she died. a volunteer found her body a week after she died, her feet bare and in the water. She sat sick and helpless for over 10 days, to sick and scared to move, hoping someone would find her before it was too late. She was 14.

Santiago wandered into out aid camp late one evening and collapsed on a cot in ourt makeshift medic tent. He too had been dislocated from his group and spent 4-5 days wandering the desert drinking only cattle water pumped from a well into a holding tank, cows often get sick and die from drinking this water and they have 4 stomachs. Santiago moaned and complained all evening of exreme stomach pains. As his condition worsened through the night all our medics could do was offer what comforts we could and chart his progress or detiriouration as the case was until dawn arrived. Santiago was rushed from camp barely conscious early the following morning to the care of a local fire and rescue team and taken to the hospital. we werent able to track his progress as it it likely he was treated for whatever bacterial infection he had then deported as soon as he was healthy enough to be transported.
Santiago was lucky we found him. He would have died if he hadnt sought out that light in the distance. Josefina was not so lucky and now... no longer endures the pains of hunger or struggle to survive.
She was a beautiful 14 year old girl who deserved a chance, she deserved better than this.
