UHW-West Rally Against Moves to Divide The Union
Manhattan Beach -- " They Say Divide US, We Say Unite Us"
More than 6,000 health care workers from the United Health Workers (UHW) -West and their community supportrs all-over the west coast rallied infront of the Marriot Manhattan Beach Hotel last Monday, July 14, 2008 fro 6:00 in the morning until 3:00 in the afternoon.
Thousands of health care workers and their supporters descended at the Manhattan Beach Hotel to protests the hearing being conducted for the jurisdiction for the California -longterm workers that will take place from July 14-15 at the Marriot Hotel under the SIEU International.
Saying that " This is a'int the convention" referring to the Puerto Rico's SEIU convention that calls for the evaluate the 2006 reorganization of long term workers for California. The SEIU wanted to break up theSEIU and hand over 65,000 of the 150,000 UHW members to another union, the 6434 United Long Term Care Workers Union.
The UHW calling for union demcoracy advaotes for "One Union, One Voice" and strogly oppose the break-up of their union. The UHW-West is a merger of the SEIU 399 from Southern California and the SEIU 250 from Northern California. They were one the strongest union in the country.
Community organizations from all over California like the Justice for the Filipino Veterans(JFAV), the Echo Park Community Coalition (EPCC), Alliance-Philippines (AJLPP)-los Angeles, the First Quarter Storm Network-USA, Ecumenical Fellowship for Justice and Peace and other groups suports the UHW-West.
