World Petroleum Congress: Non Grato

Summer is coming and, besides the nice sunny days and good weather, this year threatens us with the occupation of the capital city of the Spanish State by a gloomy lobby. Thus, from June 29th to July 3rd, 4000 delegates will gather in Madrid for the World Petroleum Congress. Behind this pompous name will join, the representatives, spokepersons and accomplices of what probably represents the most powerful lobby of the Planet (the oil one), inside which we find all those names that are a symbol of the exploitation of the People, Nature, contamination and neocolonial interference, of being both behind and in the vanguard of a great many of the wars that devastate the world....

Because we are not ready to accept it being kept hidden from the citizenry, that in the 50% of the oil exporting countries there are tensions and armed conflicts and in the 75% of them violations of the human rights are comitted. An example: solely in Bolicia the multinational Repsol affects 17 native communities forbidding their right to land and life.

Because, just like we were mobilised against war, we want to do it against one of the main lobbies that fuel them

Because we consider it an alarming cynicism that, while the spanish Government speaks about commitment against Climate Change, at the same time participates and thrusts this Congress of Devastators of the Environment

Because we don't want them to keep lying at us, because, despite the shiny slogan of their Congress - suministrating energy for a sustainable world - the dependence on oil and the pillages characteristic of their industry, entangle the world in a labyrinth of very severe social problems, political and environmental: there's no sustainability or future on oil.
