HOLLYWOOD FILM OFFICE
CELEBRATES 100 YEARS OF MOVIE MAKING IN LOS ANGELES.
Celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first films made in Los Angeles CA with the
Hollywood Film Office at the AFCI Location Trade Show Expo in Santa Monica, CA.
HOLLYWOOD CA, April 2, 2008:
In a city that loves to throw a party for just about any occasion and is considered the movie
making capital of the world, it is amazing that no one seems to have noticed that this year marks
the 100th anniversary of movies being made in Los Angeles California. The Hollywood Film
Office has taken up the torch to promote this historic event and will continue to be a champion of
the vital role the studio film industry, and independent film producers, play in this city.
Francis Boggs, a director for the then Chicago based Selig-Polyscope Co. founded the first
California movie studio in a vacant lot behind the Sing Loo Chinese laundry in downtown Los
Angeles in 1908. In his short career, Boggs was able to complete hundreds of short films taking
advantage of the agreeable weather, good lighting and many “looks” Los Angeles has to offer.
The star of these very first Hollywood films was none other than Hobart Bosworth, the “Dean of
Film” and builder of the studio space that HFO now houses its indie film operations.
The Hollywood Film Office will be promoting this monumental 100th anniversary of film
making in Los Angeles at their booth at the AFCI Location Trade Show Expo in Santa Monica,
CA this coming April 10th – 12th. In addition, HFO is planning a large summer celebration to
coincide with their Grand Opening party and are focusing their efforts to have the city
memorialize this centennial event with a plaque in downtown L.A.
With its streamlined approach to the physical production aspects of independent filmmaking,
HFO is confident and excited for the future of film making in Hollywood and making movies
move all over Los Angeles, it’s how we roll!
