Obama and African American Liberation
with
Amiri Baraka

Amiri Baraka, legendary African American poet, playwright and activist spoke recently at an African American History month celebration sponsored by Local 371, DC 37, AFSCME. He started his talk with one name repeated several times Obama, Obama,
Obama. He then proceeded to analyze the need for a new representative body to unify African American people in America, but warns against some black leadership who serve the interests of the ruling class. Always a revolutionary, Baraka emphasized the
need for an examination of the class nature of black oppression while outlining an agenda for democratizing this country which builds on the
energy which the Obama campaign is generating.
