This past Christmas, wheelchair-bound director Gary Cifra and his assistant director/wife Patty from the 501(c)(3) non-profit arts education group Kids On Paper brought their Holiday Cheer Project to Valley Presbyterian and Northridge Hospital in the San Fernando Valley. Gifts of comic books and graphic novels were given out to young hospital patients who were hospitalized there in December.
The Holiday Cheer Project was such a positive and rewarding experience for the patients, their families and the hospital staff that Kids On Paper have decided to do it again this Valentine’s Day. Sequential art has been generously donated by Dark Horse Publishing and Golden Apple Comics.
During the hospital visits, Kids On Paper encourages young patients to express themselves artistically in a comic strip. Kids can email their comic strips to the Kids On Paper website where their artwork can be posted and shared with other kids.
KIDS ON PAPER is a 501(c)(3) non-profit group whose mission is to reintroduce children to a rich, vibrant medium – comics: a hidden literary and artistic treasure trove, as well as a personal means to creative self-expression, and a highly accessible gateway to a full array of successful and rewarding career paths.
