The proposed budget that our governor has laid out will cut over 11 million dollars from California HIV/AIDS services.

As the LA Times worries about state parks and lifeguards, the lives of thousands of people who will suddenly not be able to access their life-saving pharmaceuticals will be at risk. 7 million dollars is to be cut from the State ADAP (AIDS Drug Assistance Program). While they plan to "target drugs for co-morbidities" they hope to "preserve antiretrovirals."

Cuts to education and HIV prevention. Cuts to care programs (including housing for near-homeless people living with HIV/AIDS and for community-based care and early intervention) can not be sustained. Federal dollars have been shrinking for the past ... how long has Bush been in the White House?... as rates of new infections rise.

There is a national push toward HIV testing and early treatment, but this budget will cut hundreds of thousands of dollars from HIV Counseling & Testing.

Please come to a community planning/advocacy meeting.

The date, time, and location are set. As soon as we have a roster of speakers we will inform the public. If you want to attend, please send an email to hivdatfla@yahoo.com.
