This is a thread with information about this event, which is at the So Cal Library, Room 3, 6-7 PM Saturday
The conference offered IMC a slot, so we're going to do a little presentation, and then host discussion. If you have any suggestions, post them here. We may not be able to accomodate, but others with similar interests can meet up at the event.
Follow the link to the outline of the presentation and discussion. It may be updated on Saturday.

I can't make it this weekend, but I'd like to make a quick comment- I preferred the site a few years back when the comments were less censored- there was some very insightful and inspirational give and take in the comments section . We don't see that too often anymore, and its definitely a change for the worse.

We'll have to consider hiding less. It's up to the editors to decide which things get zonked.
Also, there's been less commenting overall. I suspect that people are reading the site like a "news site" and not as much like a "blog".

The IMC is at its best with original local reporting. We don't come here for cut and paste from other sources- I'd prefer a ban on anything available from the mass media, anything spammed across the entire network, anything (sorry folks)from jonny America, Bobby meade or karen Fish, since they are all insane.
i like give and take in the comments section, too.

You are right in stating that too many posts are hidden these days. But there is a more serious problem than that - outright, unapologetic censorship in which posts are removed entirely and not even placed in the hidden section. Apparantly one of the factions at KPFK, which believes that Jews have too much influence at the station, have succeeded in placing some of their people in IMC, where they have an opportunity to censor posts which call them on their anti-semitism. And believe me, they take full advantage of this opportunity. That they are able to do this and are in fact doing it is a disgrace and a betrayal of what IMC is supposed to stand for - freedom of expression, rejection of anti-semitism and other forms of bigotry (such as portraying Arabs or Muslims as mindless fanatics), and a rejection of Stalinist lock-step thinking and outlawing of dissent.
These apparatchniks do not belong at IMC, deciding which ideas readers are allowed to explore and which ideas they must be shielded from, lest they raise doubts about the correctness of the party line and the infallibility of THE LEADERS. Please get rid of them as soon as possible - before they have an opportunity to destroy all public confidence in LAIMC as an outpost of independent thought and expression.

what kind of ADL crap is this:
"Apparantly one of the factions at KPFK, which believes that Jews have too much influence at the station-"
Yeah like anyone really cares if anyone is a Jew.
Except the psychopath zionists who confuse Jews with zionism.

i don't need to read crap about zionists, jews, kpfk, etc... on a post about an IMC workshop at an anarchist conference. please consider hiding more troll comments, thanks. I would participate more if the 'noise ratio' was cutback a bit.

Why are emails concerning questions about the editing NEVER answered but instead are evaded or, if addressed in forum, hidden.
Why are incredibly stupid joke pages reading:
* There were 0 file(s) detected.
* Your story is http://la.indymedia.org/news/2010/04/01.php
* Comment added!
As in April fool's day, 2010 ha ha HAA! (sarcasm off )
So what is the reason for this unprofessional and crude re-direct as a method of censorship?

Are the processes arbitrary and hidden or is the process a joke?
Just asking.

Since the editing is now apparently off, does the collective believe that a free for all, spam/add/racist forum will provide the tool to allow the LA IMC to adhere to its mission ideals?
An open process is the only professional and sincere method to provide information and curtail propaganda and garbage, divorced from any standards of verifiable journalism.

Now personally I don't mind being tracked and re-directed 'cause, like I always say, I am armed like a muther f**ker and would welcome the opportunity to reach out to the other side.
If only to further the general understanding of the nature of the situation involving this newswire.
But doesn't this seem a bit underhanded?
Waiting, as always for clarification, personally and for general dispersal.

Who exactly funds this little collective's BW, equipment, etc...[?]
Transparency would be nice since this site seemed to run years with out any open source
of income.
I know that some seed money was donated to many collectives from Seattle.
