HomoRevolution 2007, the first ever organized tour of Gay, Lesbian, and Transgendered hip hop artists winds down it’s 2007 Leg with a Los Angeles area based finale days after it’s flagship artist, Deadlee launches the first ever World Kiss Out Day and announces 2008 shows.
“As Houston’s JD Doyle told me, you are making queer history,” Tour Organizer Camilo Arenivar says, “and we did. History does not always feel the same as winning the World Series, Rosa Parks refusing to sit at the back of the bus did not have a sell out audience but it does not detract from the history that was made. And it is that we celebrate this finale with.”
The HomoRevolution Tour initially swung through ten Southwest cities, and later made appearances at Atlanta, Georgia’s Mondo Homo and San Francisco LGBT Pride’s Main Stage in June, where they performed before thousands in the afternoon sun. Bigg Nugg led the tour through parts of the Midwest this past October with shows in Columbus, Ohio and Minneapolis, Minnesota. Looking ahead to 2008, the tour has already been booked for True Colors Inc’s Queer Youth Conference at the University of Connecticut in March 2008 and will also hit Boston, MA during that weekend.
“We want to do NYC and Philly dates, but due to the high cost of travel, we really need some corporate sponsors to make that happen. It won’t be happening in March but maybe later in 2008 if we are lucky,” Arenivar said. “We are hoping to play Pride festivals and special events more in 2008 as they generally have some kind of funding and the cost is not as high as with touring.”
The 2007 Finale will take place where it basically launched, in Southern California. This time North Hollywood’s Club Cobra (10937 Burbank Bl, North Hollywood, CA 91601) will house the final show which will feature HomoRevolution Tour veterans Deadlee, Tori Fixx, Delacruz, Salvimex, and a few others who worked hard for the cause but never ended up on a stage of the tour.
Mélange Lavonne, whose Gay Bash video aired on LOGO most of the summer, joins the line up officially after having performed at several of the tour’s fundraiser’s but missing the tour due to scheduling conflicts. Cat Eyez was scheduled for the L.A. show but was bumped due to the tight schedule.
The performance at Cobra will come in under two hours and give people a taste of what each artist has to offer. It will also give the winner of an Open Mic Contest being held the night before (12/4) at Highland Park’s La Casa Blue (5930 York Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90042) a chance to open this important show.
