In fact, guns have a racist aspect..............in America........... guns are the number one killer of young Black men.......... To defend hand guns is to condone the killing of thousands of people; most of whom are minority. Yeah, I know, it's not the guns, just the bullet holes that kill people, but because of hand guns more than 40 thousand Americans are dead every year (and many more are horribly wounded for life). Mostly it's the young, and mostly it's the minorities who are being killed and wounded. Hand guns are designed for one thing: to kill other human beings....... and they do a very good job of doing it. too many people are being killed. too many people are be made brain-dead and paralyzed for life because of hand guns. it's an epidemic that is killing our young.
Hand guns should be outlawed now.

The Swiss has the correct model where every male adult has to maintain and *keep concealed* an automatic weapon. Giving the 'authorities' the last word in lethal force always results in massacres of the people by their own or *other* governments. Think about it. As to weapon control, the US government can't even keep track of their on considerable purchases as the missing thousands of AK 47s which could always end up in the hands of-wink-wink- 'terrorists' right here on your street.

Why The Gun is Civilized By Major L. Caudill USMC, Retired Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. If you want me to do something for you, you have a choice of either convincing me via argument, or force me to do your bidding under threat of force. Every human interaction falls into one of those two categories, without exception. Reason or force, that’s it. In a truly moral and civilized society, people exclusively interact through persuasion. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some. When I carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by force. You have to use reason and try to persuade me, because I have a way to negate your threat or employment of force. The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100 pound woman on equal footing with a 220 pound mugger, a 75 year old retiree on equal footing with a 19 year old gang banger, and a single gay guy on equal footing with a car load of drunken guys with baseball bats. The gun removes the disparity in physical strength, size, or numbers between a potential attacker and a defender. There are plenty of people who consider the gun as the source of bad force equations. These are the people who think that we’d be more civilized if all guns were removed from society, because a firearm makes it easier for a (armed) mugger to do his job. That, of course, is only true if the mugger’s potential victims are mostly disarmed, either by choice or legislative fiat—it has no validity when most of a mugger’s potential marks are armed. People who argue for the banning of arms ask for automatic rule by the young, the strong, and the many, and that’s the exact opposite of a civilized society. A mugger, even an armed one, can only make a successful living in a society where the state has granted him a force monopoly. Then there’s the argument that the gun makes confrontations lethal that otherwise would only result in injury. This argument is fallacious in several ways. Without guns involved, confrontations are won by the physically superior party inflicting overwhelming injury on the loser. People who think that fists, bats, sticks or stones don’t constitute lethal force watch too much TV. There people take beatings and come out of it with a bloody lip at worst. The fact that the gun makes lethal force easier works solely in favor of the weaker defender, not the stronger attacker. If both are armed, the field is level. The gun is the only weapon that’s as lethal in the hands of an octogenarian as it is in the hands of a weight lifter. It simply wouldn’t work as well as a force equalizer if it wasn’t both lethal and easily employable. When I carry a gun, I don’t do so because I’m looking for a fight, but because I’m looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don’t carry because I’m afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn’t limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force. It removes force from the equation….. And that’s why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

Violence does not Require a Weapon
by Open Minded
Monday, Nov. 26, 2007 at 11:59 AM
Guns do not cause violence, anymore than butcher knives or baseball bats cause violence. Guns are low on the list of items that result in the death of people. The automobile is very high on the list, and is abused far more regularly to cause death and maiming than guns are.
Violence is s state of mind, that translates into a course of action; that state of mind is one where there is very little self-discipline or self-control, and the person thinks primarily of satisfying their animal urges. Many people like to refer to this a "crime of passion", so as to excuse the result and defer the proper consequences from being enforced.
As long as people keep making excuses to overlook violent criminal actions, the problem will continue, and keep getting worse. Allowing law abiding people to carry the means to defend themselves from sudden attack may have a modicum of deterrent effect, but the real problem is a social disease, that requires strong social medicine, not blaming an inanimate object for human behavior problems.

Common Sense

travis@loseyandassociates.com
I feel badly for the anti-gun people out there that believe firearms themselves are the problem. In reality, they have many of the same feelings as firearms owners and enthusiasts, some of their beliefs are just a bit misguided. Most logical people wish to avoid pain, suffering, crime, and most unpleasant situations by default. Most logical people have respect for human life and do not have the desire to hurt another human being. In my opinion, it seems to me as if a large number of anti-gun people do not realize that "gun people" also value human life. It is their right to dislike firearms, and the freedom to do so is why America is such a great country. However, I feel for these anti-gun people that are misguided in their beliefs that banning firearms, unrealistic restrictions (that typically only make things harder on law-abiding citizens), etc somehow make things safer.
I thought I should separate this next paragraph to help get the point across as I feel it is very important and incredibly overlooked in our current society:
(1) IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO LEGISLATE MORALITY. No amount of legislation is a substitute for morality or the lack thereof.
(2) POLICE CANNOT BE EVERYWHERE ALL THE TIME. Certain situations arise where you have seconds to live, and whether or not you have a firearm can determine whether you have a good chance of living or dying unarmed.
(3) UNREALISTIC RESTRICTIONS DO NOTHING BUT WASTE LAW ABIDING CITIZEN'S TIME. Does anyone truly believe that a pistol grip on a rifle, extra couple of bullets in a clip, or any other number of trivial things somehow turns a firearm into some sort of potent superweapon intent on destroying mankind? Come on, have some common sense. It's meaningless to legislate such simplistic and useless things that have no effect what so ever on crime. Spend the money on eliminating illegal firearm sales to criminals, and stop worrying about the COSMETIC appearance of my sporting weapon! It's not a far leap from this to legislating what type of paint job you are allowed on your car, certain types of clothes you are allowed to wear........THIS IS AMERICA, GEEZ!
(4) GUN OWNERS VALUE HUMAN LIFE AS WELL! We aren't all a bunch of lunatics bent on shooting up the world. Most of us value human life and absolutely hate the idea of hurting another human being. The difference is, most of us are willing to fight for our lives if someone decides to do us harm. We won't do it because we want to, we'd do it because death is just not an option.
No matter how many laws people try to pass, no matter how many gun bans are implemented, there are always demented and disturbed individuals out there willing to do others harm no matter what. The only way to protect against this is to insure law-abiding citizens always have the right to choose to defend themselves with firearms if they should decide to. We have not yet evolved into the utopian society most of us would like, where we all deal with our problems through communication rather than violence.

I find it absurd...
by Thebes
Monday, Nov. 26, 2007 at 10:10 PM
twilightandthebes@yahoo.com
I find it absurd when those same people who warn of a dictator in charge of our nation also complain about guns in the hands of the people.
I can't count the number of times one of my friends has half-joked to me "see you in gitmo then" or "now the government will round us all up" since Bush got hisself a decider-ship. And yet a good third of these friends don't and won't own guns. Why? "I don't want to bring violence into the situation" or "They will just kill me anyway". Things that many Jews likely said under Hitler (and yet a very small number of brave Jews held the full force of the Nazi army at bay for 6 weeks in the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, starting with less weaponry than I keep in my closet).
Guns do not kill people. Two-thirds of gun deaths in the US are suicides. Many other nations have higher suicide rates than the US, and there is no evidence that availible guns cause suicide, they are just an easier and quicker means than jumping off a bridge. Even though the (very slight) majority of MURDERS in the US are committed with guns, the US still has a lower murder rate than other nations where guns are banned. Simply put, a gun is a tool, just like a machette or a kitchen knife. Taking away a tool does not stop crime, nor does it unmake monsters.
In the past 110 years in the world, about 230 million people have been killed by their 'rulers', about 70 million in war, and less than a million have been murdered with privately owned firearms. Perhaps it is time to put our money where our mouths are and insure that we as "progressives" or "the left" are well armed... the alternative could be far more gruesome then a few gangland killings of thugs by thugs.

Those laws were never intended to be used against whites; laws from the colonial period explicitly target blacks.

Noooo, guns are just the vector, the young black "men" are the number one killer of young black "men"! Gang violence, drug dealing, "respect", and ignorance blind them to the reality that there are a heck of a lot more in life to live and die for. Killing and dying for status in the eyes of their (largely) criminal peers is pathetic and insane.

Gun control is racist. Starting in 1640, laws have been enacted to keep weapons of any sort out of the hands of black people. Over the years, the scope of these laws has broadened, such that the Sullivan Law (1912, NYC) was passed to keep my Italian Catholic ancestors disarmed.
And you are now agreeing with being second class citizens? Why the h-ll did my uncles and grandfather risk their lives during the 60's to bring the vote to all Americans? So that you could say 'no thanks, this freedom and liberty stuff is too much for us to handle'?
Raise your children properly and they won't grab a gun to settle their differences.
And remember the simple math: Black Man/Woman + gun = Equal Citizen
Unless you like being pulled over for Driving While Black. Or having the police serve 'no knock' warrants. Or needing ID in order to get into your apartment building, as is happening in New York.
Freedom isn't free; you have to do your part.

So now we know that you gun grabbers actually, dementedly, believe that guns turn people into monsters! How can you actually believe this?
The truth is, guns do not turn people into monsters. Monsters get guns, while the real humans are often prohibited from having them, or using them in self-defense. And even if you are successful in confiscating every gun out there, and shutting downall the factories, people can make homemade guns with simple pipes. A man recently committed suicide with just such a gun.
The above picture is an insult to all honest gun owners, and the monsters won't care.

Ownership of guns doesn't turn people into monsters, just as the ownership of art supplies doesn't turn someone in to an artist. The will to be a monster or an artist has to be there first.

It is already illegal to commit murder, or to steal. If you want to support a pro guncontrol stance, please post instances where a gun did the following: 1. Loaded itself. 2. Killed innocent bystanders without being operated by anyone. 3. There was no crime being committed when the gun "just went off."
good luck

Denial of Moral Autonomy is Degrading

This is offensive because it denies the free will and moral autonomy of black people. It is not guns that make people good or bad; it is attentiveness to God or the devil. This mural implies that black people cannot handle arms and responsibility in dedication to good purposes, only the bad.
Perhaps this artist and his friends should read moral philosophy and meditate. After some time, maybe then they will be worthy of the responsible use of armed force.
