In recognition of the UN designated INTERNATIONAL DAY OF NONVIOLENCE & Gandhi's Birthday, a massive “Living Peace Sign” will illuminate Santa Monica beach, just north of the Santa Monica Pier, on Tuesday, October 2nd between 6:30 & 7:30 PM. Once again we will LIGHT UP THE BEACH with 900 glowing lanterns in the shape of a huge Peace Symbol and share individual testimonies of the importance of nonviolence. This living peace sign will be one of dozens simultaneously constructed in cities around the world by the Humanist Movement.

In order to reverse the devastating effects of violence we call for:
1. An end to all acts of war and aggression.
2. An end to the immoral arms industry which profits from human suffering.
3. The immediate, progressive and proportional dismantling of nuclear and conventional arsenals.
4. A broad interpretation of violence to include not only war but also; all physical, economic, psychological, sexual, religious, & social expressions of violence.

For those who came to this public action last March 17th to commemorate the anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, you will recall that it went exceptionally well and people were very touched by the beautiful luminous display (photos and video on website). We were also pleasantly surprised that 3 different local TV stations covered the event on their 5PM & 11PM evening news.

To participate on October 2nd simply show up. For more information or if you wish to collaborate or co-sponsor the event, feel free the contact the Humanist Movement of LA.

SEE YOU THERE!
