NATIONAL CHICANO MORATORIUM COMMITTEE

LAUNCHES 37TH ANNUAL COMMEMORATION

The National Chicano Moratorium Committee will commemorate the 37th anniversary of the August 29, 1970 demonstration against the war in Vietnam with a march and rally on August 25, 2007 . The March will begin at Belvedere Park in East Los Angeles (1st & Mednik) at 9:00 a.m. and culminate at Salazar Park (Whittier & Alma) at 12:30 p.m. Salazar Park was named for pioneering Chicano journalist Ruben Salazar who was killed when a deputy sheriff fired a tear gas projectile through his head while he was inside a bar away from the melee which had broken out between the sheriff’s department and demonstrators.

The themes of the march include opposition to the U.S. Colonial occupation of Iraq , Afghanistan , Palestine , Africa , Puerto Rico , Mexico /Aztlan, Latin America , as well as opposition to racist immigration policies, economic exploitation, and the “ICE Migra” raids.

The event is being co-sponsored by the NATIONAL CHICANO MORATORIUM COMMITTEE, PARTIDO NACIONAL DE LA RAZA UNIDA, MOVIMIENTO LIBERACION NACIONAL, ALTA CALIFAS SUR M.E.Ch.A REGION, COMITE PRO DEMOCRACIA EN MEXICO, DANZA MEXICA CUAUHTEMOC, HARMONY KEEPERS, FRENTE UNIDO DE LOS PUEBLOS AMERICANOS, UNION DEL BARRIO-LOS ANGELES, PUERTO RICAN ALLIANCE, ALL AFRICAN PEOPLES REVOLUTIONARY PARTY, NATIONAL BROWN BERETS OF AZTLAN, FRENTE CONTRA LAS REDADAS, LATINOS AGAINST WAR, and CHICANO SECRET SERVICE/MAL OJO.
