Beware of these scam artists

by LosAngelesTruthBringer Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007 at 2:57 PM
losangelestruthbringer@yahoo.com

Corporate scam artists Ken Hollowell, Jim DeCicco & Marcus Barcroft are attempting to cheat musicians and sponsors of the Los Angeles Music community.

I am an outside observer who has been watching the unscrupulous activities of these scam artists for the past 8 months. At the beginning of this year 2007, they joined together to assist a local award show and it's 16 year Founder Al Bowman, by forming a corporation to produce the long running Los Angeles Music Awards Event. It was during this time when I met with CEO Mr. Hollowell & President Jim DeCicco in regards to a potential business transaction. It only took a short while to determine that the 2 of them were up to no good and that it would be a mistake to be involved in any business with them. Only a year before, a performance sponsorship was quoted at $5000...they were now asking for $25,000...to be on stage at the Kodak Theater. I checked with the Kodak to find that they were not even on the schedule and that the date of the supposed show was already booked by Steven Spielberg.

I contacted the founder Mr. Bowman about this. He said he informed Hollowell & DeCicco of the lack of availability at the Kodak but they only ridiculed him and threatened to kick him off the board. He said it was then that he realized his new partners were operating from a lack of integrity, and that he needed to find a way out and to get his show back from them. According to Bowman one of their board meetings turned ugly when DeCicco threatened to beat him with a baseball bat while Hollowell threatend to bring trumped up legal charges against him.

Since Hollowell & DeCicco have defaulted on their contractual obligaton, Bowman decided that in the best interest of the Los Angeles Music scene he need to take action. Last week the website was temporarily turned off by a third party owner of the domain. In response to this, Hollowell & DeCicco filed a lawsuit against Bowman. DeCicco further went on to attempt to defraud Network Solutions by claiming to be the owner of the domain in an effort to regain control. His attempt failed. Authorities have been notified and an investigation is currently under way.

With a little more than 3 months till the award show, litigation is in the works. The unfortunate part of this scenario is that those who stand to be most negatively affected are the musicians and sponsors. Through these proceedings, the best that can be hoped for is, that the corporation be dissolved and that the show be returned to it’s founder Al Bowman, so he may put the show on as he has done the past 16 years. It is sad to see that Hollowell, DeCicco & Barcroft are attempting to destroy Bowman’s 16 years of effort in producing the Los Angeles Music Awards.

It is this reporter’s opinion that Hollowell, DeCicco & Barcroft are not nice people. They have little or no experience in the music indusrty. Their unscrupulous activities and mismanagement of corporate business is appalling. If there is any justice in this world, all 3 of them deserve to be heavily fined and potentially incarcerated, but that is for the court to decide.

If you come across any of these 3 scam artists; Ken Hollowell, Jim DeCicco or Marcus Barcroft, please be warned. They are thugs, bullies and liars. DO NOT TRUST THEM!!!

by Ken Hollowell Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007 at 12:19 PM
CEO@losangelesmusicawards.net 323-874-2594

Unfortunately, there has been an attemt to discredit the good names and reputations of the Directors & Officers of the Los Angeles Music Awards by individuals who do not know the facts and circumstances. For anyone interested in knowing the facts can request of copy of the initial complaint that was prepared by legal counsel Josh Lawler, Esq. of Zuber & Taillieu. A demand has been entered that Al Bowman cease and desist all action to interfere with and damage the business prospects of LA Entertainment Works, Inc. There has been maliciously and falsely representations concerning the business of the Company, Bowman has alledgelly embezzed at least $9,500, and much more. COO Los Angeles Music Awards

by Marcus Barcroft Thursday, Sep. 06, 2007 at 9:11 AM
coo@losangelesmusicawards.net 323-874-2594

In agreement with the CEO and President of LA Entertainment Works, it has become a sad reality that the company's majority shareholder, Al Bowman, has chosen to attempt to slander the minority shareholders in an effort to illegally gain the company and break established corporate bylaws, via numerous embezzlements, malicious lies and complete disregard for the company investors. Should any reader have questions regarding the authenticity and true nature of what is taking place, please contact our lawyer, Josh Lawler, Esq. of Zuber & Taillieu. Thank you.

Bowman Removed As An Officer

by CEO/Chairman of the Board - Ken Hollowell Thursday, Sep. 13, 2007 at 4:44 AM
kenmhollowell@aol.com 323-874-2594

On September 11th, in Superior Court for the State of California, the law firm of Zuber & Taillieu, LLP, filed and appeared befor a superior judge to present the case in behalf of LA ENTERTAINMENT WORKS, INC.

The judge has set up a hearing for October 1, 2007. This gives Bowman's attorney time to answer the complaint.

The complaint covers embazzlement, interference, breach of fudicury duty, deframatory statements and much more.

Mr. Bowman, on advise of attorney's has been suspended and removed as an officer of the corporation. Mr. Bowman still remains on the Board at this time and is still the majority shareholder of the corporation he is attempting to destroy.

I want to thank all of those who have phoned me to encourage us in the pursuit of justice, your comments, words and encouragement is deeply appreciated.

I have agreed with many of you concerning the reputation in the music industry concerning Mr.
Bowman former actions. Unfortunately, I had no idea of how unprofessional Mr. Bowman had been in the past dealing with various individuals, performers and associates. My eyes have been opened.

The17th Annual Los Angeles Music Awards is moving forward despite the actions and damaging remarks by Mr. Bowman.

We believe that on October 1st, the judge will give careful consideration to all of the damages and actions caused by Mr. Bowman and will rule in a fair and unbias manner.

Show Bowman the books Hollowell

by Susanna Griffie Thursday, Sep. 13, 2007 at 8:14 AM

The time has come to set the record straight. Please allow me to put all of the questions to rest concerning Al Bowman (Founder & Executive Producer of the Los Angeles Music Awards), Ken Hollowell, Marcus Barcroft and Jim DeCicco and this unfortunate turn of events concerning Los Angeles Music Awards.

I was asked by Mr. Hollowell to be present at a Board of Directors meeting of LA Entertainment works in July of this year. During the course of this meeting Mr. Bowman requested to see all the financial records concerning Los Angeles Music Awards, a request he had made on several occasions over the course of several months. Mr. Hollowell refused to show Mr. Bowman a financial statement, accounts receivable and accounts payable reports. I questioned Mr. Hollowell about this lack of proper reporting to the majority stockholder and founder of LA Music Awards and his response was to produce an incomplete check register with identifiers of checks oddly missing. So who were those checks paid to Hollowell? EXCUSE ME, an incomplete check register is NOT an income stmt or balance sheet. Even a corporation running on a shoestring is still required to show proper P&L's. I then questioned him about the bank account and paypal accounts associated with the company since none of those accounts list Mr. Bowman as a signer. Mr. Hollowell stated "Al Bowman doesn't need to be a signer on those accounts." Mr. Bowman then asked to be put on those accounts as a signer and Hollowell refused.

As an accountant for 13 years, I have never experienced such disregard and arrogance by a supposed professional business person. If Mr. Hollowell has extensive experience in business as he states then he is well aware of proper accounting practices. When Mr. Hollowell, Mr. Barcroft and Jim Dicicco refused Mr. Bowman's simple request of an accounting of LA Music Awards, the fireworks began.

This unfortunate litigation has been brought by three individuals who obviously fear what their financial records will prove. It's just this simple: IF THEY HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE THEN SHOW MR. BOWMAN THE BOOKS!

THEY STILL HAVE NOT SHOWN THE BOOKS!

Please take everything these three individuals say with a very small grain of salt. There has been absolutely no embezzlement, interference, breach of fiduciary duty or defamatory statements, at least not on Mr. Bowmans part.

COUGH UP THE BOOKS HOLLOWELL. Al Bowman has a show to produce!

This is a response to the comment I made earlier above. After careful review of the information that was presented before me earlier today, I realized that I was wrong and appologize for calling Ken Hollowell, Jim DeCicco & Marcus Barcroft "LOW LIFE PEOPLE." After a careful investigation, I found out that the above mentioned are scam artists as I was meant to believe. These men are working hard to contribute their part to the LA Music Community as well as the music industry in general. I do not believe in resolving conflicts with a fight; adult are suppose to sit and resolve issues like adults. Let's enjoy the freedom of music and make it fun. One love.

Hollowell: A pathological liar

by Susanna Griffie Tuesday, Sep. 18, 2007 at 1:21 PM

Shame on you Hollowell, misleading the music community. Once again you have proven that you have no scruples.

So now you're sending out false and misleading emails. You stated the followingin an email: "that you requested an injunction against Mr Bowman to cease all hostile actions against the corporation including defamatory postings, misleading and fraudulent statements, corporate embezzlement, fraud, interference and breach of fiduciary duties."

Here's the deal Hollowell . . . if you're going to tell the story, YOU NEED TO TELL THE ENTIRE STORY. ALL the motions you filed in court against Al Bowman as stated above were DENIED BY THE JUDGE!

INJUNCTION DENIED, HOLLOWELL. Where do you get off telling people otherwise? You are a man without conscience.

Take a little advice Hollowell. Keep your mouth shut because every time you tell another lie, I'm going to be right there to tell the truth. Remember, I was there at the Board of Directors meeting. By the way, you might want to tell your CFO - Jim DiCicco, that normally when someone is a CFO, THEY HAVE FORMAL TRAINING IN ACCOUNTING. A little advice from a real accountant Jim, go to your local community college and start with Accounting 101. After four years or so of classes you may just quality as a CFO!

Your unscrupulous behavior, Mr. Hollowell and inexperience at business and finance is just the "tip of the iceberg". Quit making this your own personal vendetta. We all know it's just your ego doing the talking. After all, Hollowell, YOU, DICICCO & BARCROFT have a total of 9 months experience producing an awards show. AL BOWMAN HAS 17 YEARS. Please quit touting his seventeen years as being your seventeen years.

Your show is a fraud and I pity any artist who is fooled by you or DiCicco. Stick to what you know best . . . Merry Maids and rib joint franchises. Those don't require ever having any kind of relationship with creative artists.

You guys are a joke!

WHO IS SUSANNA GRIFFIE?

by CEO/Chairman of the Board - Ken Hollowell Tuesday, Sep. 18, 2007 at 2:44 PM
kenmhollowell@aol.com 3238742594

Susanna Griffie is the live in girl friend of Al Bowman. In a posting dated September 12th, “Show Bowman the Books Hollowell” Susanna Griffie states that she was invited to a Board Meeting of LA Entertainment Works, Inc. This is a total LIE. Susanne Griffie has never been in any Board Meeting of the Company. She alleges that Al Bowman requested to see the books of LA ENTERTAINMENT WORKS, INC. which request was NEVER made by Al Bowman. Al Bowman as a shareholder, director and then an officer of the company has always been privileged to any records, books, check registry or any other documents that pertain to the company.

Our attorneys have all the books and records and have offered to show them to Bowman but there has been no response from Bowman to date.

She states, “This unfortunate litigation has been brought by three individuals who obviously fear what their financial records will prove. It's just this simple: IF THEY HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE THEN SHOW MR. BOWMAN THE BOOKS!” What Griffie does not seem to understand is when you file a lawsuit everything is REVEALED. If anyone had anything to hide a lawsuit would have NEVER been filed.

On another posting dated September 17th, “Hollowell: A pathological liar” Griffie further alleges that the music community has been misleading. We are baffled as to what is misleading? It is common practice that a judge give the other side the opportunity to answer a complaint. Griffie would have the YOU believe that the judge denied the request in the complaint. That could not be further from the truth. On October 1st, a formal hearing will be held and a ruling will be forthcoming from the judge.

Griffie further alleges that I am on some vendetta which is absolutely untrue. As the CEO of LA Entertainment Works, Inc. I have an obligation to protect the corporation, shareholders and offices from anyone or anything that would attempt to destroy the company. Mr. Bowman has made every attempt to do just that.

Let’s all wait until October 1st and see what the judge rules. In the meantime, LA Entertainment Works, dba Los Angeles Music Awards is moving forward with putting on the 17th Annual Los Angeles Music Awards on November 29th.

Men of Power

by Mr.Cat Wednesday, Sep. 19, 2007 at 8:54 PM
mojocatmusic@yahoo.com 777 Bourbon St. New Orleans, LA

Greetings loyal guitar disciples.....After a thourghly boring one sided phone conversation with the ever so holy "CEO" Mr. Ken Hollowell, leader of the faultering dupped copycat LA Music Awards, I decided I had heard enough bantering to last three lifetimes.
Al Bowman has been doing this show for 16 years, over the course of this time period I have won two awards and performed at another that honored Randy Rhoads. I was given a dream gig in which I performed "DEE" a classical guitar piece that Randy Rhoads had written for his mother Delores Rhoads of the Rhoads Consevatory of music.

In addition to playing for a packed house of industry heavyweights and celebs I ws given the great honor of presenting Delores Rhoads with a custom hand painted Jackson guitar with Randy's murial on it. It was an incredible night for me. Being a life long fan of Randy Rhoads it was a guitaristsdream to say the least. The two other awards I won were for Best Unsigned National Act in 1997. In 2002, I was awarded Rock Opera of the Year for The Mojoman Musical.
As far as I'm concerned for anyone doubting the credibility of AL BOWMAN and the REAL LOS ANGELES MUSIC AWARDS to BE HELD AT THE WHISKEY a Go Go.
To Men of Power....one must ask the eternal question....????
To be greedy or not to be is the question I had for this self proclaimed corporate CEO who thought that by telling me he was a"Former police officer" he would win over my trust.
First off, anyone who believes the police are to be trusted is a fool, second, I found it hilarious that if this guy is so reputable, so successful and is expecting to be granted the golden halo over Hollywood with honors, why is he trying so hard to discredit THE TRUE, AND THE ONE AND ONLY LOS ANGELES MUSIC AWARDS? After careful consideration I advise any and all artist's in question of Al's true integrity to stand by Al Bowman because over the years he has given me opportunities that most musicians only dream about. It's pretty cut and dry. It's takes alot of drive and determination to make your way in this business, so keep your eye on the prize not the sparrow.....

ANSWER TO MR. BOWMAN'S LATEST POSTING ON www.lamusicawards.com

by CEO/Chairman of the Board - Ken Hollowell Thursday, Sep. 20, 2007 at 7:27 AM
kenmhollowell@aol.com 323.874.2594

Al Bowman has once again attempted to mislead the entire music community with only half facts. I am going to address his comments one at a time again.

Mr. Bowman refers to the Los Angeles Music Awards as an “institution”. The Los Angeles Music Awards has been run for 16 years as a sole proprietorship for a profit. It is true that when Mr. Bowman came to me for business consultation he admitted that the business has NEVER been profitable for him and it was my opinion it was not profitable due to the way Mr. Bowman ran the business and treated individuals that were in association with him. In fact, Mr. Bowman was on the verge of losing the Los Angeles Music Awards business to individuals he had associated with that were under a “contract” to run the business. These individuals had complete control of the Event and actually took the majority of the money and left Mr. Bowman out to dry. I suggested that Mr. Bowman put the entire business of the Los Angeles Music Awards into a corporate structure to protect it from future attempts such as what Mr. Bowman had experienced. In fact, to further protect Mr. Bowman, I also suggested and implemented a “ROYALTY AGREEMENT” whereby Mr. Bowman would be paid individually by the corporation on an annual basis a “FEE” for the rights to use the trade name “Los Angeles Music Awards” by the corporation that Mr. Bowman was to be the majority shareholder. Mr. Bowman signed all of the legal documents that gave LA ENTERTAINMENT WORKS, INC. to exclusive rights to the name and Mr. Bowman has been paid in full for such rights for 2007. The next payment is due in January 2008.

What is baffling to me is Mr. Bowman’s statement that “This institution has been hijacked by two inexperienced but very methodical men who have managed to take this event, at least temporarily from me….” No Mr. Bowman, LA ENTERTAINMENT WORKS, INC. has not “hijacked” or “taken” anything away from you. You SIGNED and took payment for LA ENTERTAINMENT WORKS, INC. to have the RIGHTS to operate using the name LOS ANGELES MUSIC AWARDS and now you want to invalidate what you have agreed to and signed with LA ENTERTAINMENT WORKS, INC. The Shareholders, Board of Directors and Officers of LA ENTERTAINMENT WORKS, INC. will not stand by nor allow you to violate the business structure you agreed with. Jim DeCicco, Marcus Barcroft and myself, Ken Hollowell are NOT outsiders trying to STEAL anything. We are Directors and Officers of a corporation trying to protect the company FROM YOU and your hostilities and attempts to take control of the business and run it into the ground as you have done in the past.

You further mislead the public with your statements concerning the actions of the judge. The judge heard a motion from our legal team and in all fairness to you, the judge ordered a hearing on October 1st to allow your defense team to answer the complaints. This is very common for judges to do and it my opinion is very fair of the judge. You see it as a VICTORY, but I view it as standard court proceedings.

Your further indicate that the complaint states that it would “have prevented me from coming within 300 yards of any LA Music Awards events.” Mr. Bowman, there is nowhere in the complaint that states such a fact. Is this yet another attempt to make you look like a victim? Have you even read the complaint that was presented to the judge?

Mr. Bowman, the issue is not your 16 year experience with Los Angeles Music Awards and the accomplishments, achievements, successes and contribution to the community you have made in the past. The actual issues are can you breach your fiduciary duties as a shareholder, director and former officer with LA Entertainment Works, Inc.? Can you take checks from sponsors and artists and go to a check cashing store and convert them into cash and put that money in your pocket bypassing the legal corporate structure of LA ENTERTAINMENT WORKS, INC. and it’s corporate accounting and checking account? Can you arbitrarily disable the web site www.lamusicwards.com and use it as your sounding board and announce that the 17th Annual Los Angeles Music Awards has been cancelled when it fact it hasn’t? Can you defame, slander and liable the names and reputations of myself, Ken Hollowell who is the elected CEO of LA ENTERTAINMENT WORKS, INC., Jim DeCicco who is the President and Marcus Barcroft who is the Chief Operating Officer? Can you continually interfere with the operations which are causing damages to the name of LA ENTERTAINMENT WORKS, INC. and financial setbacks?

I second that motion on Hollowell

by Fed Up Artist Tuesday, Oct. 02, 2007 at 11:12 AM
rkabilly7@yahoo.com

I also had to suffer a call with Ken Hollowell. Here you go music community, Jim DiCicco, and Mr. Hollowell.. try and deny this one way or the other..

I spoke to Ken about playing the main event. I asked specifically what it was going to take to be considered. Here is the exact conversation.. no slander, no name calling, no sticks, no stones.. just the conversation. here is his response.

"Well the cost to reserve one full table at the awards show is $7500. Of which, some bands find do locate their own sponsors to help pay, but most can usually pay on their own."

me-"So are there any other guidelines involved? Any based upon credentials through the LAMA awards process or any other musical merit."

I swear to god this is what he said..

"No. Our final performance slot is available to any band who can pay the fee."

After I picked my jaw up off the floor. I realized what a joke these guys really are. Don't buy into anything these guys say. By the way, one of the first few things that come up when you google ole Kenny's name is his Professional Poker Player profile. Not only is he completely off the radar as far as having a career in music, BUT he's right there, easy to find, and in your face, when it comes to GAMBLING with something. Be it prestige, or artists work, or loyalty. Nothing is sacred with these guys. It was obvious before I closed my cell phone shut.

Guess we'll see today what the legal system thinks about the whole deal. Doubt there'll be too many retorts from their camp.

AL BOWMAN IS KING HOLLOWELL & DISUCCKO ARE QUEENS

by The Comprobale Mr. Cat Tuesday, Oct. 02, 2007 at 8:08 PM
mojocatmusic@yahoo.com 666 777 Bourbon St New Orleans, LA

Let it be known that the fools have indeed rushed in. Long live the KING, Al Bowman is the Godson of Rock n Roll. The Godfather of Rock n Roll "BIll Gazzari" personally handed him that title. He's done more for the independent artist movement than anyone I know. He always puts on great show and for those that participate, it's always a great event. These scam artists are just one of a million, they attempt to put on a clever face, but it's obvious that there bogus attempt at selling a pay to play event for a outrageously large sum of cash...only to win a certificate??? This is surely the biggest sucker racket of them all.
In reference to this guy being some sort of a poker player... I'd love to invite him to play an ole creole Italian card game my pops used to play , it's called one armed guedo, The way it works is when he shows up to play, the bandits chop off one arm in order to secure his bet, now thats a gamble he's a shoe in to lose....
Attend The Real L.A. Music Awards on November 28th at the Whiskey a go go. It's sure to be a smashing success...

Oh and by the way pass along the word that "Mr. Desuckko" HIS LEGITIMATE BUSINESS PARTNER!!Ha ha HA stole the gift bags that were donated for artists from a notably HIGH RANKING mob connected sponsor, ah ah ah, you've been a naughty boy. It's time to pay the fiddler, and this time he's playing your song.....NOTABLY CORRUPT SCIENTOLOGIST LOVES TO RIP OFF ARTISTS... what a song hey its also done in a drop dead tunign you bunch of crooks. Stick to being "a former police officer and a poker playing dork, your gonna be run outta of this town on a rail....

Superior Court Judge Deals Bowman a Major Blow!

by Ken Hollowell, CEO & Chairman of the Board Thursday, Oct. 04, 2007 at 4:05 AM
kenmhollowell@aol.com 323-874-2594

According to LA Entertainment Works, Inc’s President Jim DeCicco who attended the October 1st hearing with legal counsel witnessed firsthand the reprimands Bowman received from the Court concerning his actions over the past few months. The major emphasis for LA Entertainment Works, Inc. has been to obtain the control of the web domain www.lamusicawards.com that Mr. Bowman took down and began using the site for his own agenda. The litigation is far from over but LA Entertainment Works and its Board of Directors is confident that further release will be realized in time.

Mr. Bowman would have the general public to believe that the Los Angeles Music Awards is in litigation when the facts are that LA Entertainment Works, Inc. is in litigation against Al Bowman. Mr. Bowman decided several months ago to disregard the business structure of LA Entertainment Works, Inc. and launch out with his own agenda to create a competing business, The Phoenix Music Awards. In addition, the complaint that the Court is reviewing encompasses, Breach of Fiduciary Duties (Bowman is a major shareholders, Director and former Officer of LA Entertainment Works, Inc.), Embezzlement of Funds, and Defaming, Slandering and Libeling the Board Members with various posting and verbal statements.

Mr. DeCicco reported to the Board that Mr. Bowman was warned by the Judge that his continued actions could result in serious consequences. LA Entertainment Works, Inc. paid Mr. Bowman an royalty fee in full for an Exclusive Licensing Agreement for the complete use and Good Will of Los Angeles Music Awards yet Mr. Bowman has decided to ignore the agreement and announce that he will put on his own Los Angeles Music Awards one day earlier than the scheduled November 29th 17 Annual Los Angele Music Awards Event at the Music Box in Hollywood, California. The active Board Members, Officers and staff of LA Entertainment Works, Inc. are confident that the Court will again rule against Mr. Bowman preventing hi m from competing with the scheduled Los Angeles Music Awards event on November 29, 2007.

Again, I would like to express thanks to all of the artists, sponsors, shareholders, affiliates and staff for their continued support and encouragement during these difficult times. The e-mails I have been receiving are deeply appreciated.

Hollowell investigated by CA Dept. of Corporations

by Susanna Griffie Saturday, Oct. 06, 2007 at 11:36 AM

I was in the courtroom on October 1, 2007 when the judge denied the plaintiffs their request to prevent Al Bowman from what Hollowell calls "creating a competing business" IE: the Phoenix Music Awards. According to the judge "I will not stop Mr. Bowman from starting a business in Phoenix". The fact of the matter is that Hollowell has only made partial payment to Bowman for licensing the name "Los Angeles Music Awards" thereby making the agreement null and void but even more important is that Hollowell DID NOT BUY BOWMAN'S BUSINESS. Attempting to license a name and buying a business are two totally different animals. Hollowell is leading people to believe that he purchased the business when in fact he has stolen all income related to Los Angeles Music Awards leaving Bowman no alternative but to venture beyond the boundaries of Hollywood. Other then the fact that "equal access" to the web sites by both sides be allowed, the judge DENIED all of Hollowell's motions, ALL OF THEM!

Unfortunately this may turn out to be a very long and drawn out battle in the courts. How unfortunate for the bands who are affected and how unfortunate for the individuals such as me who have been slandered in court and the press. Mr. Hollowell, Mr. DeCicco and their attorney's have fabricated evidence and lied to the courts in regard to my involvement in this case, which I might add is very minimal. My only involvement in the issues at hand are my witnessing Mr. Hollowell's threats to remove Bowman from the Board of Directors because of Bowman's insistence that the Board members abide by California law in regard to financial accounting. If Hollowell and DeCicco persist in telling lies and fabricating evidence I will have no choice but to offer my testimony in this case.

The State of California Corporations Commission is currently investigating LA Entertainment Works, Hollowell & DeCicco for the following:

1) Securities Fraud: Selling and issuing millions of shares of stock NOT backed by ANY liquid assets. (Hollowell, DeCicco, Barcroft have not invested one dime in Los Angeles Music Awards of which they have only been Board members for 10 months)

2) Not following State of CA compliance laws regarding franchise sales. Any and all corporations attempting to sell franchises MUST register and be approved by the CA Corporations Commission. (LA Entertainment Works did NOT follow procedure in this regard.)

LA ENTERTAINMENT WORKS IS NOT AUTHORIZED TO SELL FRANCHISES OR STOCK.

In regard to Mr. Hollowell's claims that Bowman is putting on another "Los Angeles Music Awards". This is simply not true. I am the production supervisor of the event scheduled for November 28, 2007 at the Whisky a go go. This event will honor film, arts, music and all entertainment.

If anyone chooses to check the legal status of mine or Bowman's business, we are an open book.

Susanna Griffie solely owned businesses:
1) JDMrubbings.com, myspace.com/jdmrubbings
2) Insane Games, LLC

Susanna Griffie/Al Bowman jointly owned business:
1) Phoenix Music Awards, LLC

Phoenix Music Awards is an established business in good standing with the Arizona Corporation Commission and the AZ Secretary of State. Had Hollowell done his homework and tried not to circumvent established regulations and laws in California then LA Entertainment Works would not be investigated at this time. Unfortunately for Bowman and the bands, Hollowell's lies and total disregard for the law were found out just a little too late, hence the mess we're in now. Be not deceived, the truth will come out. LA Entertainment Works will dissolve, Los Angeles Music Awards will once again be produced by it's founder, Al Bowman and the Phoenix Music Awards will remain unscathed, owned and operated by Al Bowman & myself, ONLY.

I just want to thank Music Connection Magazine, Jewel Box Platinum, JAP PR, and the many celebrities and bands who have been steadfast in their loyalty to Los Angeles Music Awards Founder, Al Bowman.

Microsoft files suit against Hollowell

by Nelson Schneider Monday, Oct. 08, 2007 at 3:45 PM
nschneider48@yahoo.com

I've been watching this feud from afar and thought everyone might like to know the other stuff this guy Hollowell is being investigated for. We all gotta come to our own conclusion on this one but it sure looks like the cards are stacked against Hollowell.

READ ON

Hotmail recently filed a lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Central District of California alleging violations of the Lanham Act, the Federal Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, the California Business and Professional Code, California common law, breach of contract, and trespass to chattels. See Microsoft Corp. v. Franpro, Inc.; GTW Communications, Inc.; Ken M Hollowell; and Gregory T. Williams , No. 99-079269R (BQRx). Hotmail is seeking injunctive relief to prevent this abuse in the future, and monetary relief.

In its Complaint, Hotmail alleges that the defendants, owners and operators of certain Internet domains had sent unsolicited commercial advertisements via e-mail to a large number of e-mail addresses. The complaint also alleges that the defendants employed the Hotmail e-mail header to make it look as if the e-mail originated from a Hotmail account (which, in fact, could not be the case because of the volume caps and other safeguards in place at Hotmail). Many e-mail service providers, like Hotmail, instruct members who receive spam to report any such occurrence to the originating domain, which, in this case, appeared to recipients to be Hotmail. As a result, Hotmail received a large volume of complaints at abuse@hotmail.com from recipients who believed that Hotmail facilitated and condoned the transmission of these unwanted messages.

In addition, the defendants opened a Hotmail account for the purpose of capturing both the replies from recipients of the unsolicited e-mail, and the "bounce back" e-mails that were generated when the e-mail was sent to a non-existent e-mail address. Before Hotmail had a chance to shut down this account, over 4,100 bounce back and reply e-mails were collected in the account.

Defendants' actions resulted in the diversion of resources away from the legitimate activity of Hotmail's users. It also caused a number of people to associate Hotmail with the negative experience of receiving spam e-mail. We certainly would rather not have to resort to litigation to prevent this sort of abuse, but in some instances it is an unfortunate necessity. Hotmail will continue to use litigation, as necessary, as only one of many tools at our disposal to protect our users and our system from unwanted spam.

HOLLOWELL NEVER SUED

by Ken Hollowell, CEO & Chairman of the Board Tuesday, Oct. 09, 2007 at 1:31 PM
kenmhollowell@aol.com 323.874.2594

Nearly 10 years ago I received a notification that I was included in a suit by Hotmail that was owned my Microsoft concerning some spam that went out using a former domain I had owned.

When Hotmail researched and discovered that I had no part in the spam I was dropped from the suit.

The aforementioned individual is none other than Al Bowman using a yahoo email. The IP comes directly from Arizona where Bowman And Griffie reside.

HOW DOES GRIFFIE OR BOWMAN KNOW ABOUT ANY INVESTIGATION?

by Ken Hollowell, CEO & Chairman of the Board Tuesday, Oct. 09, 2007 at 2:04 PM
kenmhollowell@aol.com 323.874.2594

I have not been notified by any State authority that I am under any investigation from California. If I am, it is because Bowman and Griffiie have sent a letter to the State of California whereby they have complained about some alleged illegal formation of LA Entertainment Works, Inc.

Anyone can make a complaint, but where there is any formal investigation, frankly I am unaware of it.

What Bowman does not seem to understand is he is the majority owner of the corporation and if there is any investigation he stands to possibly lose the most.

Actually this smells like a smear campaign more than anything. I have been warned by so many people that this is what Bowman does when someone stands up to him. He is referred to as a MASTER SMEAR campaigner. I guess I am experiencing it first hand.

Of course, none of this is relevant to the pending lawsuit. I guess it makes Bowman and Griffie satisfied to launch this type of postings.

This Reminds Me Of A First Grade Child Who Does Not Get His Way.

by Ken Hollowell, CEO & Chairman of the Board Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007 at 6:30 AM
kenmhollowell@aol.com 323-874-2594

I am absolutely amazed at the time and energency Mr. Bowman has to spend so much time in sending e-mails and appearing in court along with traveling back and forth from Phoenix, Arizona to Los Angeles, California to whin and mourn about something HE created in the first place. Had Mr. Bowman been a team player and working with LA Entertainment Works, Inc. instead of trying to go around the corporation and do things that benefit himself none of this would be occuring.;

It is my opinion that Mr. Bowman lives in an illustional state of mind that convinces him that everyone is out to get him or steal from him. From what others tell me, this has been going on with him for 16 years now.

I recently met with a group of professionals here in Hollywood to discuss the 17th Annual LA Music Awards event and the first thing out of one of the individuals mouth was "I hear you are Bowman next victim..." The individuals preceded to tell me his own experiences with Bowman and how Bowman always plays the part as the VICTIM in his business relationships with people.

I do not know of anyone I have ever known in business that has such a negative reputation as Mr. Bowman does here in Los Angeles.

Here are the types of e-mail I am receiving on a regular basis from Bowman:

October 4, 2007 1:06 PM

"Mr. Well, Hollow:
You now have my site forwarded to yours. Be reminded Ken, you licensed a name. You did not buy my business. You are just about the most confused man I have ever met. I am not now, nor have I ever been afraid of you. Criminals do not intimidate me. I beat the DA's office, the LAPD, the big drug companies, the California mental health care system and the court of public opinion the last time I went to court. I withstood FOUR trials and was the key witness in getting the most rare of all verdicts in criminal jurisprudence. I withstood a relentless prosecutor who kept me on the witness stand for days. I never cracked. That is what I trained for in the military. All four Alfred C. Bowman's before me were West Point graduates. Are you sure you want to take on someone with my kind of military background? ( See People vs. West-Bowman ) Crushing you is just too damn easy.

You are the one who the Attorney General's office is investigating, not me. You are the one who did not cover your bases on issuing stock ILLEGALLY that was not backed by bank liquidity. ( that is called SECURITIES FRAUD, in case you need some knowledge on that )You are the one ILLEGALLY selling franchises. I do not want to be a part of your fraud. Kindly remove me from your kenhollowell.com web site. Please forward my e-mails from your site to my yahoo address.

I beg you Ken. Let's go to trial on this. It would be my pleasure to spend $50,000 to teach you a lesson. Tom Neely has a bar of soap for you to take with you to the joint after you lose...."

October 8, 2007 11:16 PM

"You are right, criminal. I filed a complaint against you. In writing. Case number
CAS 37423. Why don't you call the investigator and tell him you are an ex-cop trying to be someone in Hollywood you phony piece of White trash. You are a criminal and criminals belong in jail getting it from Bubba in your 64 year old butthole. Why don't you just admit it Ken. You are a hijacker and a swindler. YOU STOLE MY BUSINESS FROM ME. It is just that simple. You have NO EXPERIENCE producing awards shows or anything else in Hollywood. You just want to give your Butt Boy Jim a business of his own, seeing how both of you are criminals and don't know how to make an honest living. Thou does protest too much Ken. Why? Cause you are guilty? There is not even one posting from me anywhere. What is it that you are trying to achieve here? You already ruined two decades of my work. You stole my production, scumbag. But guess what Ken? You can't steal my history, good or bad. No archives or momentos for you anywhere. That is because you do not exist. Powerful people delegate Ken, and I am delegating to you your failure, you phony. Yeah, when someone attackes my family like you, I will defend them. Next time we go to court, show the judge the CANCELLED CHECKS that prove you paid me anything. "

Hollowell & DeCicco post phony email address for Bowman

by Susanna Griffie Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007 at 8:23 AM
sgriffie1@yahoo.com

Please beware that if you visit the contact page on Hollowell's and DeCicco's version of this years LA Music Awards website: (losangelesmusicawards.net) the email address listed for Al Bowman is a phony one. These men removed Bowmans real email address and replaced it with one that only they have access to thereby making artists and others believe that they are contacting the founder (Al Bowman) when in fact they will be contacting Hollowell and DeCicco.

The founder of the Los Angeles Music Awards is and always will be Al Bowman. There is no lie or law that could ever change that fact because you just can't change history. Though they have Al Bowman listed as the founder, their efforts to confuse the music community by changing Bowman's email address is just another desperate attempt by desperate men to cling to something that was never theirs to begin with. Perhaps if Hollowell and DeCicco would concentrate on building a business of their own they wouldn't have to ride the coat tails of Al Bowman.

Bowman's has two email addresses and can be reached at either one of the following: lamusicawards@yahoo.com & phoenixmusicawards@yahoo.com

Shame on these guys. This is the lowdown and it's not that complicated.

1) They fail to pay Bowman the balance of the contracted amount for the licensing fee ($25,000.00)

2) They fail to pay Bowman ANY of the contracted amount for consulting fees ($150,000.00 per year)

3) They prevent Bowman from having ANY access to bank accounts and paypal accounts, stealing every penny for "their own personal gain".

4) They fail to show Bowman a proper accounting of LA Entertainment Works when he repeatedly requested it, then attempt to sue him to avoid showing him those books. (BOWMAN IS STILL WAITING TO SEE THOSE BOOKS).

5) In the three court hearings initiated by Hollowell and DeCicco the judge has denied all but one of their motions. That motion being: "All parties involved must have equal access to all LA Music Awards web sites." Now they've scheduled another hearing that will appeal the judges previous rulings that denied Hollowells request to get rid of Bowman.

EVERY ONE OF THESE FIVE ISSUES ARE DOCUMENTED IN COURT FILINGS. I believe that Ken Hollowell and Jim DeCicco have finally tightened the noose around their own necks. Any reasonably intelligent person knows that it's a pretty foolish move to question a judge and ask her to re-visit issues she has previously ruled on.

The really sad part in this years "LA Music Awards" is that they have failed their talented artists miserably by failing to put on a decent voting party. All we really must do is look at the numbers to come to that conclusion because of the relatively small venue (The Palmer Room) they used to showcase this event. Last years voting party at The Whisky A Go Go was a packed house with a capacity of over 500 compared to The Palmer Room which has a capacity of 72. The body count alone is enough to show the success or failure of an event! How very sad and dissapointing for the artists who put their faith in Jim DeCicco and Ken M Hollowell. Those artists are just as much victims of Hollowell & DeCicco as Al Bowman is.

I just don't get it. How can Hollowell and DeCicco accuse Bowman of not being a team player and following corporate rules when they flat out refuse to pay him? Guess what guys . . . no one works for free! Perhaps Hollowell and DeCicco should consider giving up their US citizenship in favor of a dictatorship.

Funny Thing Is....

by Nobody Important Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007 at 4:38 PM

Wow, ok so this is still going on huh. Ok, here's a couple of things I know as fact... Ken Hollowell and Jim Diccico stole Al Bowman's awards show from him. Not saying Al didnt deserve it, I mean let's face it, hes not much of a business man. He's a bullshit artist. So really what happened here is that Al just got "Out Bullshitted" by 2 scam artists that don't know shit about putting on an awards show. Al is a bullshit artist, but overall a nice guy and I believe he has done a small part at helping undiscovered musicians. A SMALL part, lets face it, he didnt discover, shop, or represent any of the artists who have gone on to bigger and better things, they just had the money to buy an award from him.

Now as far as these 2 idiots Diccico and Hollowell go. Ken Hollowell is a noted scam artist as you can tell from the numerous complaints about him online. I mean if this guy is so smart, how come he cant post a complete thought without a dozen spelling mistakes, or posting it 2 and 3 times. He dangled some money in front of Al's face, Al took it.

Jim Diccico is known around Hollywood as a general asshole who is shady from the get-go. Last year he was running a contest on sonic bids and he actually picked the winner before the contest started, yet accepted ALL of the fees for new submissions from unsuspecting bands. Uhh, I think thats called Mail Fraud, but what do I know.

So now there are 2 LA Music Awards going on, and as funny as this is, it's just gonna hurt the artists the most. I mean really, do either of these mean anything right now? Al's event is at the Whisky and it looks like he has some fairly large heavyweights this year as far as industry goes, and the nice thing is, this is the first year I believe winners wont have to buy an award from him.

The other is at the Music Box and all's I could say is... CHARO??? What the fuck is that all about?? FUCKING CHARO??? The chick from Hollywood Squares and the Love Boat?? Yea I guess she really paved the way for Los Angeles Musicians in the past. Damn Hollowell and Dicicco, you dudes are idiots. I also hear from a staff member at the Music Box that the place is less that 1/4 sold. GOOD JOB GUYS, JIMMY AND KENNY, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, YOU'RE ON A ROLL. Maybe next year you could get the gay guy from Too Close for Comfort and give him an award.

Ken Hollowell, CEO LA Entertianment Works, Inc.

by Ken Hollowell, CEO & Chairman of the Board Monday, Oct. 22, 2007 at 4:47 PM
kenmhollowell@aol.com 323.874.2594

The misinformation continues from Susana Griffie who is Al Bowman’s newest live in girl friend. Those that truly know Bowman know the women in his life are numerous. What Griffie fails to note is how this entire situation began. Bowman took funds from a sponsor and cashed a check to benefit himself back in January that he was called on the carpet concerning. He promised not to do it again but he was caught once again embezzling funds 2 additional artists that the Board of Directors has record of. Bowman was paid the license agreement in full ($25,000) even though he is claiming he was never paid. The Court has that record on file too.

No Director or Officer of the Los Angeles Music Awards is on a salary either. The judge that has heard the motions to date has indicated that when this entire matter goes to trial, Bowman will be facing some serious situations and will most likely lose in a Court of Law. That is on record.

Would anyone in their right mind defame, slander or libel another person in this day? However, Bowman and Griffie continue to mislead and misstate facts over and over again. The legal team of LA Entertainment Works, Inc. is documenting everything that is posted, verbally stated by others and each and every e-mail Bowman and Griffie has sent.

The response of the actions of the Board of Directors of LA Entertainment Works, Inc. has been overwhelming. Many, many people that know Bowman has contacted either DeCicco or me with such words on encouragement. Mainly comments that it’s about time that someone stands up to Bowman and put a stop to his actions from year to year. More and more artists are aware of the dealing of Bowman over the years and are congratulation the management of the Los Angeles Music Awards. People are even coming to us that disassociated themselves from the Los Angeles Music Awards under the leadership of Bowman and are now joining us in this year’s production. As I said, the support and encouragement is amazing. The stories that are being told and which are being documented will all be brought out in time.
Griffie is also misinformed concerning the Court because LA Entertainment Works, Inc. has received two motions in our favor. But anyone that knows Bowman is use to misinformation. I guess it also is rubbing off on Griffie too.

Griffie might want to learn about business structures too. Most every corporation is run like a dictatorship meaning that those who own the majority of the stock made the decisions. Bowman was told from the beginning of the formation of LA Entertainment Works, Inc. that the Board of Directors would establish policies.

This Is All You Guys Have To Do

by Tom Monday, Oct. 22, 2007 at 7:24 PM

I've known Al for years and know that he has avoided paying taxes for much of his income. All you guys need to do is notify the IRS and have them confirm the money Al has not paid in taxes. Most likely Al will spend time in prision for his misdeeds.

If I were you, I would not put up with his shit.

Jim D and Hen H.

by Roger Berman Saturday, Nov. 03, 2007 at 2:18 PM

Jim DeCiccio is in fact a scam artist. I am part of one of the corporate sponserships and have asked for an expenditure report on several occasions.

They are directly pocketing money and over-charging artists for rights to play at an insufficient venue.

Jim D and Ken Hallowell have both personally purchased alcohol, drugs and sexually explicit materials on the LAMA's budget.

My Apologies to Jim D and Ken Hallowell

by Roger Berman Tuesday, Nov. 06, 2007 at 4:05 AM

I must confess that I have never spoken with either Jim D or Ken Hallowell in my life nor do I really know anything about either of them. I was with Al Bowman and listened to his story and thought I would help the bastard out by posting something.

I really feel bad about doing this. In the past I did drugs with Bowman and bought women and thought I say that about these guys.

Bowman is really a jerk and had I not been high when I saw him I would not have posted such crap.

Sorry about that.

"Smokin" with the enemy

by Kerry Tuesday, Nov. 06, 2007 at 5:17 PM

This is the problem with Indie Media. You have idiots like this Berman guy who can't make up his mind what they think. I'd say it was Berman who did too many drugs, so many he can't remember who he likes and who he doesn't or where his loyalties lie. Drug addicts and the like do no one ANY favors, least of all to Bowman, Hollowell, Dicicco or LA Music Awards.

As for Berman, he might be better off if he took (another) chill pill or smoked whatever it is he smokes and leave the LA Music Awards situation to people with some intelligence.

LA Entertainment Works Wins Injunction Against Al Bowman

by Ken Hollowell, CEO & Chairman of the Board Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007 at 4:11 PM

On November 6, 2007 in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, Central District, the DEFENDANT, Al Bowman has been enjoined from using and/or exploiting the mark "Los Angeles Music Awards" without the express written consent of the majority of the Board of Directors for LA Entertainment Works, Inc.; The Order for the Issuance of a Preliminary Injunction, OSC and TRO is a major win for the Corporation.

Once again, the Judge stated when this entire matter goes to court, in her opinion, Al Bowman will suffer a great lose. The damages Mr. Bowman has caused to the Corporation, its Directors and Officers are beyond anyones imagination.

Again, I want to express my appreciation for the many phone calls and e-mails from those of you who have continued to offer encouragement and support to the Directors and Officers of LA Entertainment Works, Inc.

MAY THE BEST PRODUCTION WIN

i've been an objective observer of the happenings related to LA Music Awards since LA Entertainment Works (LA Music Awards) filed their lawsuit against it's founder, Al Bowman. I've researched all court documents to come to my own conclusion as to whom to believe. Here's my conclusion:

The statements attributed here by Ken Hollowell are not exactly truthful. In Mr. Hollowell's latest posting he relates that the courts granted him an injunction against Bowman. Mr. Hollowell neglects to tell the entire facts. The judge only agreed to sign that injunction if LA Entertainment Works puts up a $10,000.00 bond. This bond is protection for Al Bowman in that, if the future trial is decided in Bowman's favor, then LA Entertainment Works will forfeit said bond. As of this posting Ken Hollowell has NOT put up that bond. Therefore the judge has not signed any order. All that said, I find it interesting in all 56 plus comments that have been posted on this particular site, NOT ONE POSTING HAS COME FROM AL BOWMAN. I have not personally spoken with Mr. Bowman, but I've come to the following conclusion after speaking off the record with many of his current and past business associates. Ken Hollowell doth protest too much. In the eyes of the business community and artists involved, they know why Bowman hasn't talked . . . he's too busy producing The Hollywood F.A.M.E. Awards.

So I say, forget all this talk and let the production(s) speak for themselves. Here's my take on both productions:

LA Music Awards (public event)
Date: Nov 29, 2007
Place: Music Box Theatre
Host: Poorman
Dinner tables sold: ? @ $3000.00 ea
Sponsors: 1 (all others listed were secured previously by Al Bowman)
Celebrities in attendance: 1
Recipients: 20 independent artists
After party: No info available

Hollywood F.A.M.E. Awards (private invitation only event)
Date: Nov 28, 2007
Place: Whisky A Go Go
Host: Al Bowman & Ramsey Moore of Comedy Central
Tickets distributed through private sponsors: 500 (venue capacity - no tickets available)
Sponsors: 20
Celebrities in attendance: 20 Intl. recognized personalities from the world of film, art & music.
Recipients: 35 Independent artists
After party: Performances by 3 bands (ending at 1:30 am)
After party cost: $20.00

After compiling the list of details related to both productions, it appears that LA Entertainment Works made a huge error in filing suit against Al Bowman and attempting to remove him from having anything to do with LA Music Awards. In the course of my investigation I learned that Al Bowman did indeed try to offer his assistance to Hollowell and Dicco to save the 2007 LA Music Awards. In August 2007 he proposed a compromise with LA Entertainment Works and Ken Hollowell to produce their event. In spite of Bowman's efforts to try and salvage what took him 16 years to create, LA Entertainment Works, Ken Holowell & Decicco refused his assistance, assuming they could do what Bowman had done.

Now, just a few weeks away from both productions, I ask myself? Which one do I want to attend? The choice is obvious and apparently many artists and celeb's agree: The Hollywood F.A.M.E. awards.

The only question that remains in my mind is: Why would Al Bowman even want the LA Music Awards anymore? If I were him, I'd say "so long". The LA Music Awards appears to have been destroyed by a man named Ken Hollowell.

Of course I'll reserve my final judgment on the success or failure of each production until both events have concluded but it sure looks bad for the artists involved with the 2007 version of the LA Music Awards. Who knows maybe all this legal wrangling was for the best. It appears Al Bowman has surpassed anything he's ever done with the LA Music Awards by creating The Hollywood FAME Awards. I know which event I'll be attending.

wonder where THIS money's comin' from?

rkabilly7@yahoo.com 8184547487 1234 High St.

quick observation that left me with an even WORSE taste in my mouth about this whole thing.

Ringmaster said....."The judge only agreed to sign that injunction if LA Entertainment Works puts up a $10,000.00 bond."

Now.. I understand how business works and I understand that revenue is revenue and business expenses are business expenses.. plain and simple.

But it sure does sound so much worse when you just go 'head and say it out loud to yourself..

These frauds are using ARTIST money to pay for any and all applicable court fees needed to sue the FOUNDER of this event.

It just feels so rotten as an artist to be scammed for money so they can use it to fight an entire community of people I truly support and whole-heartedly belong to.

So buy a table folks... hell, buy a FEW.. with all the court fees the supposed former LA Music Awards are almost guaranteed to incur with this carnival of idiocy.. they're really gonna need the cash.. and besides.. it's the holidays.. have a heart.

2007 Awards show a Sham - My Experience

by Bob Tuesday, Dec. 04, 2007 at 8:49 AM

Having been "nominated" for a 2007 award, I thought it would be fun to go and check out an awards show. So I bought tickets, general admission, to the show and made plans to fly to LA from Idaho. Some friends of mine from Portugal who had also been nominated, were going to fly in too. We all arrived in L.A. safely. Thursday, awards night, we went to the Music Box at 5:30 to "register." Here we stood, in line, on the sidewalk in front of the Music Box, along with hundreds of other nominees and friends until almost 7:30. Our feet hurt, and everyone was wondering what was going on. We finally started moving, registered, received our general admission armbands, did the cheesy "red carpet", entered the theater and was directed up some stairs to a back lounge area. This was what our general admission ticket got us. We weren't allowed into the auditorium and we were "nominees!". Nowhere was this mentioned when purchasing our tickets in advance. Everywhere people had confused looks on their faces and I spoke with many of them and they were in the same predicament: General admission nominees. True bullshit at its finest. I have never been treated so disrespectfully in all my life. Hopefully others will write in and tell their stories of ticket misrepresentation.

Went to both... My perspective...

by No One Important Sunday, Dec. 09, 2007 at 11:49 PM

OK, I believe I'm the first one here who was actually at both events so I just wanted to give my opinion on both of them. Both shows had little to rave about no matter what has been posted on this forum. I will preface this by saying that I am an LA based musician who has been on the scene for the past 3 years and am personal friends with the club owners, the promoters, and everyone who actually does do something for the community in this town. Neither of these awards shows did.

The Hollywood Fame awards can only be described as mass chaos. It started an hour late, the production was JUST HORRIBLE, none of the celebrities that were tauted as being there showed up. Before the show, we were told Slash, Billy Gibbons, and Nick Cage would be there. Of course in typical Al Bowman fashion, none of them did. There were a couple of producers there, mostly re-claiming accolades from the 70's and the amount of just plain bull shit awards given out were staggering. Best attorney of the year?? At a music awards show... Best Attorney of the Year?? Two comments that stuck in my mind that I heard outside during the event were 1) I've seen more culturally uplifiting entertainment at a Tiajuana Donkey Show and 2) The Hollywood Fame awards were such an embarassing piece of shit to musicians that Courtney Love tried to fuck it. Im not making this up lol. As much of a total clusterfuck as this was, you can tell Al was trying to put on a good event. It fell woefully short, but was good for a laugh.

The LA Music Awards had STELLER production value this year. The webcast was such a great addition and if anyone gave a shit, wouldve been a great idea. What the event had in production value it totally lost in credibility. The Red Carpet event was cheesier that its ever been with Metal Sanez and some other idiot hosting it. The funny thing about the Red Carpet Event was that fact the the two hosts running it had no clue as to what happened the past 6 months and were too busy talking about themseleves to even care. Jim Decicco and Ken Hollowell were a joke taking credit for all of Al Bowman's work for the last 16 years and you can clearly tell they're trying to fit in and be big shots in LA's music community when the fact of the matter is that neither of these 2 assholes have the respect of anyone in LA cause they sell awards. Just like Al's, just like the other 2 magazine award shows in LA, awards are for sale to whoever buys a table. The LA Music Awards is proof that if you have a raggedy car and you throw a whole bunch of money into it, you will have an expensive raggedy car.

Hollywood F.A.M.E. Awards

by Stephen Jacobs Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007 at 1:31 AM
greenleopard-inc@earthlink.net

Did the people who are trashing Al Bowman and the Hollywood F.A.M.E. Awards go to the same event I did? if so, they should make an appointment with their optometrist and an audiologist. The show was great! There were technical problems at one point, but what show doesn't have that happen on occasion. I received the Independent Short Film Screenplay Award, I networked with some very talented and famous people and now I already have a director and a producer that want me to expand my 15 minute Sci-Fi script "CRITICAL DECISION" to a full length motion picture for production! I have won 2 L.A. Music Awards (2000 & 2003) and the exposure helped me land several distributions including my multi-award winning CD "THIS WORLD" now being available on iTunes, Napster, etc.

Al Bowman has done more for independent musical talent and now recognizing other genres than anybody in this town. He produces great shows and with a lot of soul. On November 28th at the F.A.M.E. Awards he awarded musicians, composers, producers, managers, entertainment lawyers, writers, filmmakers, artists, critics, plus several charities, among other categories and was recognized by the Hollywood Chamber of Congress for his accomplishments over the years in giving new voices a chance to be heard. The consumer's din of lower audience expectations and shallow, narcissistic "Artists" with little or no original talent currently so successful in the absolutely mindless, parasitic and derivative garbage world of "popular" music should be grateful that an Al Bowman exists. They certainly aren't getting anything fresh or original from their puppet masters in the corporate music biz. As for the morons that hi-jacked the L.A. Music Awards from Al...I wish you timely and accurate karma.

Here are some things to be considered regarding the Hollywood F.A.M.E. Awards: Three of the greatest movie mogul families were at this event - the daughter of Stanley Kramer (Kat Kramer - who performed), members of the Dino Dilaurentis dynasty and the widow of Samuel Fuller. Very famous recording artists who have sold millions of records worldwide both attended and even performed live, to the delight of the audience. 100% of the recipients were there. Al has been contacted by some of the biggest management companies in the world including ICM,CAA and William Morris, offering A List clients of their's as recipients for 2008.

This event eclipes most others simply because it combines different formats into one show. The Hollywood F.A.M.E. Awards have creative license to honor achievers from ALL forms of entertainment without being genre specific. Next year, the event will honor big names from top 20 televison shows and films as well as music and movie producers, directors and engineers, special effects artists, journalists and radio personalities and over 50 independent artists from the grassroots music community.

The show was great, the concept of multiple genre awards fresh and invigorating for this town and my prediction is that the Hollywood F.A.M.E. Awards in 2008 will be the hottest ticket in town.

LA Music Awards experience

by Martha Monday, Dec. 17, 2007 at 5:45 PM

Having attended the event I wish I knew few things in advance :
1) if you buy the general attendence tickets you won't be allowd anywhere near the show, in fact you'll be stuck upstairs wearing those stupid green ribbons they put around your wrist at the entrance to indicate your "upstairs" place. Nominee or no nominee.
2) No use turning up to the event in time. You'll be waitig for couple of hours to get inside the theater. Flat heels, hot drinks and a warm pullover could make a huge difference.
3) the red carpet was rather amateur and unimpressive.

Music Critics Must Die: Awards Show Season
Sat, 15 Dec 2007 00:11:44 -0800 PST
by Scott G - The G-Man

Going behind the scenes and inside the shenanigans, Scott G peers through the smoke and tries to avoid the noise as he accompanies Giannetta Marconi to the Los Angeles Music Awards.

I have covered the Grammys as a journalist. I have attended advertising industry shows (Beldings, Lulus, etc., and was a judge at the Clios one year). I even won a few times at the old Los Angeles Music Awards (LAMA). All of this was fun, but exhausting.

It had reached the point where I didn’t feel like getting gussied up to drive to another long evening of too loud music and incomprehensibly boring acceptance speeches. But I got talked into it by three people.

First, the new president of the LAMA thought I would be an ideal journalist to see how they had “smoothed things out” from the disorganized messes of the past couple of years. Next, the rock photographer Snook assured me that we would have a great time watching the “train wreck.” And finally, Giannetta Marconi asked me to accompany her since she was a nominee.

Off to Darkest Hollywood
So okay, I said. It took only two phone calls and the exchange of six e-mails to garner the information that the press passes would be at “the media table.” After first following my checklist (business cards, cash, printout of invitation, ear plugs), Giannetta and I set off for Darkest Hollywood.

Klieg lights were out front of the Music Box Theater near Hollywood and Vine, making the place quite easy to find amidst the mixture of glittery neon and gritty squalor that marks much of the 90028 area of town. And parking was a relatively low eight bucks when we arrived (I’ve seen parking rates climb to more than $100 as space runs out and curtain time approaches).

We strolled past a hundred or so people in line and began a 20-minute saga of obtaining three wristbands each (silver, yellow, and green). In my head, I multiplied those minutes times the 500 or so people who would be attending and figured that anyone arriving close to showtime still hasn’t made it into the event.

Doing the Red Carpet Dance
As a nominee, Giannetta was able to “walk the red carpet” and be interviewed by smiling, friendly people who had no idea with whom they were talking. I got to be the arm candy, holding up her album at appropriate moments. I think I handled that task fairly well for a first-timer (don’t shake the album cover, don’t bump the microphone, don’t block anyone’s face, and tilt the album downward just slightly to avoid the glare from the lights).

One of the interviewers turned out to be Monique Lukens (AKA Unique Monique) of the “Dancing Under the Influence of Electronica” program broadcast on WLFR and Shoutcast. Small world (I was on a show featuring tracks from my “Crazed + Dazed” album a week or so earlier). Now I know why those carpet walk events on TV seem to be such a strange mixture of “who are you?” and “let’s do lunch!”

As we mingled on the carpet, it was apparent that the steadily-lengthening line leading to the media table was mainly full of people who should have been in the Will Call line on the other side of the theater entrance, guaranteeing that a stream of disgruntled people continually filed past the front of the theater.

Locked Out
Eventually, we went into the lobby, had our picture snapped a few times, and attempted to enter the theater. No dice. None of our three wristbands entitled us to enter prior to the start of the show. WTF?

This didn’t concern me, but what if Giannetta’s category was first? I asked several people (including the press director and the president of the show) for a schedule, but got the same answer from all of them: “I don’t have one with me.”

The show began with a few hundred of us locked out. Five minutes went by. Then 10. The security people on the doors wouldn’t let anyone in without a purple wristband, which was for those who had ordered the $100+ dinner. We went to the door farthest from the lobby and engineered our way in (those of us in front smiled adoringly while flaunting our press credentials and those in the back encouraged angry ticket holders to press forward, “scooting” us through the portal).

We made it inside! I almost wish we hadn’t. An open door at the side of the venue allowed overpowering fumes from nicotine addicts in the parking lot to clog lungs and nasal passages. The event and the theater itself should be fined for this breach of the codes from the Board of Health.

Stupid is as Stupid Does
Meanwhile, the public address system blasted nearly incomprehensible barking from an emcee in jeans and a baseball cap. The man claimed to be the host of both a radio show and a television program, but clearly no one in broadcasting would ever hire someone this ineffectual.

None of the nominees’ names were mentioned during the course of the proceedings. The emcee in the cap read the winners’ names for category after category, the monotony broken only by a succession of artists playing one song each. It soon became evident that every performer during the evening was the winner in their category. So much for suspense. It was so painfully obvious that people in the audience were predicting the winners 100% of the time.

Locked Out Again
About an hour into the show, when my fellow journalist Natasha Rhodes went to the lobby for a few moments, she couldn’t return. The security people on the doors refused to let her back in without a purple wristband. Photographer Snook went out to see what was taking her so long and they wouldn’t let either of them back in, so he called me on my cell phone and I went out there to find Natasha happily interviewing artists who had paid for their tickets but who were being told they couldn’t attend the event. Apparently, the security people were never told that the doors could be opened to anyone with a green wristband once the pre-show dinner was concluded.

We forced our way back into the show just to prove that we could. Why? You may well ask. Not for the lack of pageantry, not for the drunken speeches, and not for the music. The performances consisted primarily of one Generic Noisemaking Group after another, all playing the same crushingly loud sludge-pile song. Or so it seemed on a sound system that was obviously rescued from the bottom of a stagnant pond. One comment I overheard: “I’ve seen people playing guitar outdoors at the Third Street Promenade with better sound than this.”

A Miracle
Then, suddenly, everything changed. Sherry Petta began singing a soft jazz number with a band that actually knew how to play its instruments. She performed an original composition, “Waiting,” that would have been right at home on a lovely album from Getz, Gilberto, Fitzgerald, or Krall. Dynamics! Tone! Phrasing! Melody! It was marvelous. Along with Pete Gitlin (guitar), Dave Henning (piano), Andy Ziker (drums), Steven VonWald (saxophone), and Ryan Roberts (bass), Sherry Petta was an astral beacon of musicality.

It should be noted that the emcee spent a portion of Petta’s performance in the aisle of the theater, talking loudly with one of his “sponsors,” a bail bonds operator.

Slouching to a Conclusion
After a few self-congratulatory diatribes from the producers of the LAMA (they appear to have very high opinions of themselves), the noise returned in the form of the “band of the year” or some such designation. And how was their caterwauling, untuned wailing, and monotonous thumping any different from the other no-talents that preceded Ms. Petta? Not a jot.

One terrific running joke during the evening was watching the two trophy girls present the winners with a large multicolored plaque (it resembled an oversized Texas belt buckle in a gilt frame), then wiggle their way into the shot as LAMA’s official photographer, Jim Steinfeldt, snapped an image or two.

A second running joke was watching the two trophy girls retrieve the plaque from the previous winner so it could be held up in the photo of the next winner. And so on. I’m not certain what people took home, but not the award.

Were there any good things besides Sherry Petta? Well, none of the promised celebrities (including Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins and “TV sensation and guitar virtuoso Charo”) showed up, so we were spared their embarrassment. And the lighting, by Sean Lyons, was excellent.

But the event was a delightful mess. I asked one of the theater staff if they had ever seen anything this disorganized. “Not so far in my career” was the reply. Finally, allow me to pass along what one noted music writer had to say about the show: “Maybe it will finally die a silent and long overdue death.”

Ken Hollowell, Marcus Barcroft & Jim DeCicco resign from LA Music Awards.

by The Ringmaster Tuesday, Feb. 05, 2008 at 4:43 PM

Seems all three of these guys who claimed to "own" the Los Angeles Music Awards have scurried away, crawling back under the rock they came from. In the end their own attorney's had to withdraw from the case before Hollowell would believe "it's over". I don't know if Ken Hollowell has a "God" complex or he's just plain ignorant but what a sad state of affairs for any business person in any type of business. There's got to be thousands of "Hollowell's" out there . . . lieing, cheating and commiting fraud. This writer is just thankful that the good guy won for a change. I'm sure the entire independent music scene is thankful for that as well, especially Al Bowman. He claimed all along that Ken Hollowell was operating LA Music Awards illegally. I just wonder why it took court hearings to make the truth come out. Al Bowman has 18 years of history under his belt. Yet some guy named Ken Hollowell, who hasn't got any experience in the entertainment industry could slink into LA and make people believe his lies by flashing a bunch of phony stock in their face. I can't help but ask myself "How could this happen?" Everyone who's anyone in LA knows that there's no loyalty in this town but come on . . .

Al Bowman = 18 years
Ken Hollowell = 0 years

As far as Ken Hollowell, Marcus Barcroft & Jimmy D are concerned, all I can say is I hope there's some kind of retribution for their actions. People like this cannot be allowed to destroy a mans business and life. I, for one am ecstatic that the State of CA Corporations Commission is following through with their investigation of Ken Hollowell, Barcroft & DeCicco for issuing 10 million shares of stock without having one red cent in the bank to back it up. My research shows the State and Feds take this type of thing very seriously. It may take a while but I certainly hope that Hollowell's other so called businesses get wind of these complaints. If I were them, I'd jump on that ole band wagon and take their businesses back too.

My congratulations to Al Bowman, who stood up to an unethical group of so called business professionals and won! I guess you just can't keep a good man down.

Final Resolutions

by Al B Friday, Jul. 11, 2008 at 8:03 PM

" Splitting time between Los Angeles and Phoenix, Arizona this past year and running two award shows and showcase series in both cities has certainly been challenging to say the least. Trying to expand a small enterprise such as this while facing increased competition from those who are not insiders to the music and motion picture business makes it even more difficult. Being the very first one to have established these types of outlets for artists who aspire to succeed in the entertainment industry has created many imitators. While this is personally flattering to me, it is detrimental to the artists who find themselves being duped by those who claim to be what we have always been: A REAL AND TRUE AWARDS PROGRAM.

Recently, former associates of mine got together and decided to replicate the work I have done these past two decades by starting a competing event and showcase series. Personally, I welcome such competition, because no matter how they might try, they, like others cannot compete with such a long and storied history that the LA Music awards has created. In this ever changing world where unscrupulous people such as these can use the internet to falsely claim a tradition and history that does not exist, they often fool artists who may fall prey to their lies and deceitful business practices.

In 2007, these same men set out to take over this organization at first by using threats and intimidation. When that failed, they tried to use the courts to wrestle control away from me and in to their own hands, using funds raised from artists submissions and small contributing sponsors to pay their lawyers to do so. That also failed, simply because a judge in LA Superior Court found no justification for their actions. On January 25th of this year, the LA Music Awards was officially returned to me by the courts. Unfortunately, the damage caused by the actions of these men was vast and very tough to contain. As the year progresses, we have managed to clean up this mess, albeit one artist and individual at a time.

At this time, the LA Music Awards and our attorney's are moving forward on a legal action against these individuals not only for the damages inflicted on us, but for what they did to an entire community of independent artists. We are seeking damages in excess of $500,000 against former Chief Financial Officer and company president Jim DeCicco, his partner in crime Ken Hollowell, DeCicco's business associates Brent Harvey and KBH Entertainment and Kim LaChance, along with two others who will be named in this lawsuit. I want to be clear about one thing here: NO ONE CAN ATTEMPT TO DO WHAT THESE INDIVIDUALS DID AND WALK AWAY WITHOUT CONSEQUENCES.

If you are an artist faced with choosing which direction to go with your music, choose correctly. These former associates of this organization have put us in this position by not only scheduling their showcase events the same nights as ours, they have also scheduled their inaugural event the same night as well, just four blocks from where our event is scheduled for November 20th. This is being done deliberately and maliciously to try and force artists to choose them over us. I have never witnessed such dirty, back handed betrayal as what these individuals have done. For you, the artists, bands and film makers, the choice is obvious: go with the established track record in the community. We have the good will of the Hollywood elite behind us. We have celebrities and established and successful people in the industry who want to meet you and see and hear your best work. Thank you for reading this and be sure to copy and paste it so that you can pass it on to others."

Sincerely,
Alfred Connor Bowman V

Don't trust them

by Toby E Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009 at 2:56 AM
mascdhjshsh@gmail.com

Most scam artists don’t have conscience on doing such fraudulent actions. If they really have so, they will refuse themselves from doing that thing. Getting payday loans through Personal Money Store hasn't ever been, and won't ever be, a scam. A lot of people were hit by scam artists over 2008 – like people looking to renegotiate loan terms or reduce their mortgage payments, or to get their hands on their government tax stimulus checks, or to get payday loans and a lot of people fell victim to unscrupulous con artists. Hopefully, with amount of coverage that these activities have been getting through newspapers and lots of internet coverage, 2009 will be a far safer year. For instance, if someone calls you claiming to be the IRS and demanding payment, you can hang up – the IRS can only contact you by mail. Check out this article to learn more about payday loans and avoiding deceptive practices.

met Al Bowman

by anonymous award nominee from previous year Thursday, Apr. 16, 2009 at 6:15 PM

Al Bowman is a character, too.

My band played at an LA Music Awards nomination event in LA about 2 or 3 years ago and the guy who introduced us on stage completely made up stuff about us to make us sound accomplished. That guy was Al Bowman.

He was SO over the top we were laughing:

Al Bowman (off mic):
"what's your name?" (to me)
I told him my name.

2 seconds later, Al Bowman turns to the audience:
"Ladies and Gentlemen, [so-in-so; (me)] is one of the most highly regarded guitarists in L.A. and is a finalist for best jazz guitarist in L.A.."

Fact: we'd never even played in L.A. before, let alone reside there. We laughed pretty hard. He went on like this, too.

He seemed like a nice guy but also just like Fred Willard from Martin Mull's show, Fernwood Tonight. I mean Bowman is JUST like Fred Willard. Bowman could easily pass as Willard's double visually plus Bowman unwitingly has Willard's shtick down pat except it's sincere.

Anyway, the whole L.A. scene is quite stereotypically L.A., I'm sorry to say. There are indeed some very wonderful nice people down there but for some reason all the breast implants and hair plugs disturb brain-wave ambiance to the extent that even well-meaning nice folk get their narcissistism super-sized with a schmucky with twist of lemon.

Let's do lunch.
