People are all across the park, along Wilshire. Flags of many nations are flying, and there are little mini-march rallies within the larger crowd. Many immigrants came, of course, but so did many supporters of all creeds, colors, and even political persuasions.
Approaching from the south, on Alvarado between 7th and Wilshire, there are two rows of police standing, and a crowd that's sometimes lax and other times edgy milling around. Above, the sky is beating with helicopters, creating a tense and unpleasant environment. It's totally pointless, because the demonstrators are not only peaceful, they are in a peace-making mood, and the angry machinery is just antagonistic.
At the western end, near Park View, it appears calmer, but I didn't get all the way there. People are scheduled to speak, but the crowd was so loud and spirited that it was hard to tell if anything was being said, or heard.
If anyone knows what the story behind the police is, and why an ambulance was leaving the area, please post. Thanks.
