JFAV JOINS US-WIDE MAY DAY MARCH/RALLIES, STANDS FOR FAMILY REUNIFICATION AND FULL RIGHTS FOR ALL IMMIGRANTS NOW!
Los Angeles -- The Justice for Filipino American Veterans (JFAV), an alliance of 26 veterans, youth, student and community organizations in Southern California, militantly supports the nationwide mass action on the International Worker Day, may 1, 2007 all over the United States/
On May 1, 2007 we will again march in Historic Filipinotown and join the march rally in MaArthur Park. We call for family reunification, justice for veterans and full rights for all immigrants, now! We strongly condemn the racist attacks and raids against immigrants all over the nation. More than 4,000 Filipinos has been deported because of such massive raids.
Now, the US Veterans Administration (USVA) and the White House is openly opposing the Veterans Equity Bill that has been languishing in the US Congress for the last 60 years. In the US Senate Hearing last April 11, the USVA representatives bloated and misrepresented the budget for Filipino veterans by saying that $ 510 Million is needed for the equity bill while the veterans bill needs only $ 200 million budget.
The 11,000 remaining Filipino World War II veterans in the United States together with the 54,000 living in the Philippines, stronlgy condemns the USVA and the White House opposition to the equity bill. Will never let their injustice pass and will conduct mass actions against such opposition from May 6 -9.2007 in key cities of the United States .
JFAV also acknowledge the role being played by the community, youth and students. The vibrant and militant Filipino American community, students and youth, who have supported the veterans’ struggle for recognition, justice and equity since 1993 have kept the fires of veterans struggle burning. We will march with them on May 1 in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Seattle and other cities of the United States.
JFAV stands for earned or genuine legalization as a path for citizenship. We oppose the STRIVE Act in the U.S. Congress or the Bush Plan which is nothing but a modified Bracero Program (the earliest guest workers program during World War II) that would certainly exploit workers, keep them in long wait for citizenship or else deny them earned legalization.
We support the call for amnesty and full rights for all immigrants that will pave the way for earned legalization of the more than 12 million undocumented immigrants. More than 14 million immigrants came without any limitations from 1900 to 1914. Reagan legalized and gave amnesty to 5 million immigrants in 1982. Why not and why can’t the US government do it now?
